Even in the electric theatre of the BetMGM Premier League, Gerwyn Price is a singular force of nature.
The Iceman is a proven winner, a former world champion and world number one. Yet he arrives for the 2026 season fuelled by frustration: his wait for an eighth singles major now stretches over three years.
That major moratorium surely will not go on much longer, given 2025 brought four premier event semi-finals, a European Tour victory, a World Series triumph and a tour-leading five Players Championship wins.
Price is also the BetMGM Premier League's ultimate nine-dart machine and a consistent presence at the business end of every tournament.
The question now is whether the ex-rugby player can convert that explosive talent into the Premier League crown that has so far eluded him.
Below, you can delve further into Price’s career highlights and titles ahead of the 2026 BetMGM Premier League Darts season, which sees eight of the world’s best compete across a blockbuster 17 nights in the UK, Ireland and Europe.
Gerwyn Price History
There’s no one quite like Price – and the Welshman’s journey to the top of darts is unlike anyone else’s too.
After a professional rugby career, he traded the big hits of the scrum for the big scores of the oche in 2014.
His natural competitiveness translated immediately and his intimidating stage presence, forged in the Welsh Premier and Pro12, quickly made him a feared competitor.
A fast starter, it took little time for Price to earn his PDC stripes. After entering Qualifying School in January 2014 he succeeded in winning his second-ever event to earn a two-year tour card.
His rapid ascent culminated in the ultimate triumph at the 2021 World Darts Championship. In a final played behind closed doors, he defeated Gary Anderson to lift the Sid Waddell Trophy and become the world number one, completing one of the most remarkable stories in modern sport.
Since that peak Price has cemented his status as an elite force and consistently reached the latter stages of major tournaments, including the 2023 Premier League final.
Now seven major singles titles in, the Iceman has a well-earned reputation as one of the top entertainers in BetMGM Premier League history.
Just last year Price landed nine-darters in Manchester and Aberdeen – incredibly, the second time in a Premier League campaign he had hit two perfect legs – before securing a trip to Finals Night.
While the Welshman tasted trophy success on the European Tour and in the World Series in 2025, his wait for an eighth PDC singles major victory now stretches toward the three-and-a-half-year mark… a wait he would dearly love to end in the 2026 BetMGM Premier League campaign.
It is also a wait that makes Price arguably the most dangerous and motivated player in the field.
Gerwyn Price Stats
Price is often in a league of his own when it comes to show-stopping moments. Here are some of his best:
- Price is the undisputed king of the Premier League perfect leg, having hit a record five nine-darters in the competition's history. No other player has hit as many in a single televised event
- Price famously hit a perfect leg twice in one evening during the 2022 campaign… in Belfast, where this year’s competition visits on Night 4 (26th Feb)
- Price finished 2025 with the fifth-highest average on tour at 97.95, having hit over 600 180s and ranking behind only back-to-back world champion Luke Littler for 110+ averages recorded
- The Welshman has hit seven televised nine-dart finishes in his career, cementing his place as one of the most prolific scorers the sport has ever seen
Gerwyn Price Titles
Price has won seven singles majors, the World Cup (twice) and more than 45 PDC titles in total. His seven premier event singles wins are:
- PDC World Championship – 2021
- Grand Slam of Darts (3) – 2018, 2019, 2021
- World Series Finals (2) – 2020, 2022
- World Grand Prix – 2020
Related Players
Statistically, the Iceman is up there with the best to have ever played the sport.
But to come out on top this season he is going to have to deal with some seriously talented players – namely world number one Littler.
Older heads such as seven-time winner Michael van Gerwen, defending BetMGM Premier League champion Luke Humphries, 2021 titlist Jonny Clayton and former Masters winner Stephen Bunting will also pose a huge challenge to the Welshman, while debutants Gian van Veen and Josh Rock are as explosive as they come.
