Jonny Clayton returns to the BetMGM Premier League scene armed with something half the field does not possess: the experience of winning it all.

After two seasons away from the Premier League stage, 2021 winner Clayton earned his return through sheer consistency in 2025.

While a fifth major singles title proved elusive he was a constant presence at the business end of tournaments in 2025, reaching the final of the Masters and partnering 2026 BetMGM Premier League rival Gerwyn Price to another World Cup final for Wales.

Now, after two seasons on the outside looking in, the popular Welshman is back to prove that lightning can strike twice in the Premier League arena.

Below you can delve further into the Ferret’s career highlights and titles ahead of the 2026 BetMGM Premier League Darts season, which sees eight of the world’s best compete across a blockbuster 17 nights in the UK, Ireland and Europe.

Jonny Clayton History

A late bloomer by modern standards, Clayton joined the PDC Pro Tour in 2015 aged 32.

He made the final of a singles major within two years – the 2017 Players Championship Finals – before picking up the Austrian Darts Open title the next year.

His partnership with compatriot Price delivered a first major success for Wales at the 2020 World Cup of Darts… but it was 2021 that saw the Ferret’s career really take off.

It began with a career-changing victory at the Masters, which secured him a debut spot in the Premier League.

He seized the opportunity with both hands, hitting a nine-darter on his way to topping the league phase and defeating Jose de Sousa in the final to become the first-ever Welsh Premier League champion.

Those victories sparked what has become known in darts circles as ‘the Year of the Ferret’.

At times in 2021, Clayton seemed near-untouchable. Wins at the World Grand Prix and the World Series of Darts Finals took his tally to four majors for the year and ensured he broke into the world top 10 for the first time.

While he hasn't lifted an individual major since he has remained an elite force, winning a second World Cup in 2023 and consistently reaching major semi-finals and finals.

The 2026 BetMGM Premier League could be coming at the perfect time for the 51-year-old.

Related Players

As an established tour player and former champion, Clayton will be eager to show his capabilities on his return to the BetMGM Premier League.

He will, though, have to be on top form to overcome some fierce opponents.

Back-to-back world titlist Luke Littler and defending Premier League champion Luke Humphries will be difficult to live with, as will seven-time winner Michael van Gerwen.

His World Cup partner Price will also pose a huge challenge, while debutants Gian van Veen and Josh Rock are formidable and Stephen Bunting remains a threat in any tournament.
