LUKE KEEPS COOL TO LAND FIRST NIGHTLY WIN – BETMGM PREMIER LEAGUE DARTS NIGHT 15 RECAP

Luke Humphries finally claimed his first nightly win of the BetMGM Premier League season in Birmingham – and it was enough for the defending champion to secure his play-off spot.

His win over Gerwyn Price in the final saw him guarantee his place in the top four while, in making the final, the Iceman made sure he will be appearing at the O2 too.

With the top four locked in and a night to go, Night 16 in Sheffield will see Price and Littler jostle for position for the more favourable draw in London.

Here’s everything you need to know about Night 15 in a nutshell:

  • Night 15 winner: Luke Humphries
  • Runner-up: Gerwyn Price
  • Key takeaway: Humphries won his first night of the season and qualified for the play-offs in the process; Two whitewashes happened on the same night for the first time in Premier league history; Luke Littler was denied a fifth nightly win in a row; Seven-time champion Michael van Gerwen misses out on the play-offs for the second season in a row

How Night 15 Unfolded in Birmingham

It was a fast-paced night in the Second City and the night where the top four was decided.

On the night Humphries and Price assured qualification, Gian van Veen kicked off proceedings with a win over Josh Rock before Price got the better of Van Gerwen in a back-and-forth tussle.

Humphries

Humphries thrashed Stephen Bunting 6-0, and then another whitewash was just around the corner – Littler demolishing second-placed Jonny Clayton.

Price made sure of his top four spot by beating Van Veen in the semis, before Humphries finally got the better of Littler in the other – with Cool Hand averaging north of 110.

He then raced into a commanding lead in the final before a Price comeback made it 4-4. It wasn’t to be for the Welshman though, and the defending champion won two legs in a row to claim a 6-4 win.

THE WINNER’S ENCLOSURE WITH… LUKE HUMPHRIES

"I'm incredibly proud of myself, probably the most proud I've ever been in my life," Humphries said post-match.

“For me, the last two Premier Leagues have been easy, getting through in 14 weeks

"For the last few weeks there has been a lot of pressure on my shoulders. To make three finals and win one means a lot. I get written off a lot as a player but this means I have that grit and determination.

Humphries quote

"Yes [there was a point where I thought I wouldn't make Finals Night], when you are five points outside the top four you think you need a miracle.

"But in the back of my mind, and my girlfriend's mind, we knew I had it in me. I needed someone to tell me I could do it – I've believed in myself the last few weeks.

"I'm really proud because it would have hurt me had I not defended the title at the O2."
