BETMGM PREMIER LEAGUE DARTS NIGHT 12 PREVIEW & TIPS: Home joy for Van Gerwen?

Following last week's Midlands masterclass from Michael van Gerwen, the 2024 BetMGM Premier League Darts heads to the continent once again and to the city of Rotterdam.

Seven-time champion Van Gerwen finally got his competition back on track in Birmingham, clinching his fourth nightly win and dashing Luke Littler’s hopes of a hat-trick.

Littler does still lead the way at the top of the table, two points ahead of world champion Luke Humphries after beating him in the Birmingham semi-final. Rob Cross continues to struggle, losing out in the quarter-final once again, while some flashes of his old self didn’t prevent Peter Wright from losing to Humphiries at the first hurdle.

Elsewhere, Gerwyn Price could not make it past the quarter-final stage either, with Michael Smith getting the better of him before losing to Van Gerwen. Price, sitting second bottom of the table, now faces an uphill battle to make it to Play-offs Night next month with Cross in a similar position just one point ahead of the Iceman. Michael Smith occupies the final place outside the play-off spots.

The battle for the top four is really hotting up now and before we share our picks for our acca as well as our weekly specials, let’s take a run-through of the Night 12 fixtures as the tournament makes its return to the Netherlands.

BetMGM Premier League Darts Night 12 Fixtures

First up in the quarter-finals, Michael Smith takes on league leader Luke Littler as Bully Boy looks to fight his way into the top four. Littler will be looking to extend his lead at the top of the table and win his third night in four weeks, while Smith will want to build on two consecutive semi-final appearances and edge ahead of Nathan Aspinall.

Already assured of a play-offs place, the Nuke is in excellent form despite a slight stutter last week and will be a tough opponent for the former world champion.

Rob Cross faces Gerwyn Price in the second of the last-eight matches in what really is a must-win for both players if they have aspirations of breaking into the top four and making Play-offs Night. Both players have struggled for rhythm throughout the competition and sit sixth and seventh in the table respectively with only five rounds left to play.

Price, though one point behind Cross in the standings, has been in better touch recently with a runner-up spot on Night 10 and an average of 99.33 across all 2024 tournaments. Voltage is without a Premier League win of any kind since Night 6 in Brighton and, after a decent start, has found the competition tough going.

Next we have Peter Wright against Nathan Aspinall. The Asp has had a strong 2024 BetMGM Premier League Darts campaign so far, with one nightly win and three runner-up spots to his name. With Wright having just two wins in the competition this year, and yet to make it past a semi-final, Aspinall will be eyeing this one up as a great chance to get some more points on the board.

Finally we have Birmingham winner and seven-time BetMGM Premier League Darts champion Michael van Gerwen taking on world number one Luke Humphries. Both men have won three nights in a row this year and then saw their form dip in the weeks that followed.

MVG’s win last week was his first nightly win since Night 4 – Humphries will be looking to emulate him in bouncing back after just one Premier League match win since completing his nightly hat-trick across Brighton, Nottingham and Dublin.

Night 12 quarter-finals in full: Michael Smith vs Luke Littler; Rob Cross vs Gerwyn Price; Peter Wright vs Nathan Aspinall; Michael van Gerwen vs Luke Humphries

19/2 BetMGM Premier League Darts Night 12 Accumulator

As the 2024 BetMGM Premier League Darts hops over to Rotterdam for its final trip to mainland Europe, we have put together our weekly acca which comes in at odds of 19/2.

Luke Littler and Michael Smith get the evening underway in the first quarter-final, with Smith still seeking a first nightly win since he won in Cardiff, way back on Night 1 in February. Bully Boy defeated Littler on his way to that win in Cardiff and has in fact won three of the four meetings between the pair in the competition this year.

Littler leads the way for 180s across all tournaments in 2024 with 291 – 41 more than nearest challenger Luke Humphries. Smith’s stats (160) aren’t too shabby either so it’s to the maximums market we head for our acca. Over 6.5 180s in this one comes in at an intriguing 7/10.

The second quarter-final sees a crunch match between Rob Cross and Gerwyn Price with both languishing at the wrong end of the table. The Welshman has had an inconsistent Premier League but did make the final of the International Darts Open last weekend while Voltage, after four semi-final placings and a runners-up spot by week six, hasn’t picked up a single point since.

This should make for an intriguing battle with both players capable of some classy finishes – as such, we’re going with Price to hit the highest checkout. The Iceman tops the Premier League stats for 100+ finishes and has hit a higher checkout than his opponent in over half of his matches. At odds of 3/4, that looks a good bet.

Peter Wright faces Nathan Aspinall in quarter-final three, and the Asp will be eyeing the opportunity to nail down a top-four spot against a player who continues to struggle for form. Sitting at the bottom of the pile, Snakebite has shown moments of quality in the competition, but those moments have been too few and far between, and he still remains with just two wins, and four points, to his name.

Aspinall has enjoyed a solid 2024 BetMGM Premier League following a shaky start but has yet to add to his single nightly win, obtained in Exeter on Night 5. That said, his consistent displays see him occupy the final play-off spot and he has only exited at the quarter-final stage once since Night 6.

Wright’s struggles are well documented and in 2024 the Scotsman has averaged just 92.80 across all PDC competitions – 4/5 for Wright to average under 94.5 against Aspinall looks a sensible shout.

Closing out the quarter-finals in Rotterdam is Michael van Gerwen, who will be hoping his native Dutch crowd can roar him on to a second successive nightly victory and fifth overall. He faces Luke Humphries, who sits just two points ahead of him in the table after following his three consecutive nightly wins with quarter-final exits in the weeks which followed.

A semi-final appearance last week marked an improvement, and Humphries has played some scintillating darts across the tournament, making this an intriguing battle between current and former world champions.

The last meeting between the two saw Cool Hand dismantle MVG 8-1 in the final of the German Darts Grand Prix but both players have enjoyed success in their Premier League match-ups. They have met twice in the competition, winning one apiece a close battle once again is in the offing here.

With Van Gerwen showing a return to form and playing in his home country, matched up against a world number one player who has looked unbeatable at times, we are closing out our Night 12 acca with the match to contain over 9.5 legs at 9/10.

Night 12 Accumulator

  • Gerwyn Price to hit the highest checkout vs Rob Cross
