BetMGM Premier League Darts Night 14 Preview & Tips: Price Needs Rescue Job in Aberdeen

The 2024 BetMGM Premier League Darts makes its second and final trip to Scotland this year with a jaunt to the Granite City of Aberdeen as Play-offs Night looms ever closer.

Luke Littler’s victory last week in Liverpool extended his lead at the top of the table to five points and means he is effectively assured of a spot at the O2 next month. One player who won’t be making the Play-offs however is Gerwyn Price – the Welshan has withdrawn from Night 14 in Aberdeen through injury, joining Peter Wright as the second player to be eliminated from the 2024 BetMGM Premier League Darts

Littler triumphed over Rob Cross in the final with Voltage really needing to win the night to stand a chance of progressing to the last four. Littler’s 6-2 victory looked at one point like it could be a whitewash before Cross claimed two legs late on – in truth, though, the league leader won at a canter to claim his third nightly victory of the competition.

World champion Humphries went on to lose to Littler but sits nicely in second place in the table, his three previous nightly wins standing him in good stead. He is six points ahead of fifth-placed Michael Smith who still has a shot of making Play-offs Night despite a quarter-final exit. He needs to make up the ground on Michael van Gerwen, whose semi-final appearance last week gave him a four-point cushion inside the top four.

There is truly no room for error now as the 2024 BetMGM Premier League Darts heads to Aberdeen. Let’s take a run-through of the Night 14 fixtures as the tournament hops over the border for the final time.

BetMGM Premier League Darts Night 14 Fixtures

First up in Aberdeen Peter Wright takes on Michael Smith. Bully Boy will be eyeing up this one as a way to pick up points to boost his chances of a top-four finish. Wright has endured a torrid tournament with just two wins and will be looking to give his native Scottish crowd something to cheer about at last. Smith has four points to make up on the top four and an overall victory in Aberdeen would be his first since the opening night of the competition in Cardiff.

Next up at the oche is a clash between league leader Luke Littler and third-placed Nathan Aspinall. The pair met in the semi-final last week with Littler coming out on top in Liverpool. Aspinall, though, has enjoyed a good tournament and occupies third place with two nightly wins to his name. More importantly, he also has a five-point cushion over fifth-placed Smith.

If the Asp can add a third overall win here in Aberdeen his play-off place will be all but assured while Littler can go a long way to ensuring he finishes the regular competition on top of the pile.

Quarter-final number three sees Michael van Gerwen play last week’s runner-up Rob Cross, who is just about clinging onto his lingering play-off hopes. Cross’s run to the final in Liverpool meant he picked up his first wins since way back on Night 6 but he has potentially given himself too much to do as the competition enters the closing stages.

Van Gerwen is sitting inside the top four with four nightly wins to his name but also seven quarter-final exits, showing he can be beaten if Cross is on form and ready to pounce on any errors.

The final quarter-final was due to see Gerwyn Price take on Luke Humphires, but Price’s withdrawal through injury means that Humphries will go directly through to the semi-final, facing either Michael van Gerwen or Rob Cross.

24/5 BetMGM Premier League Darts Night 14 Accumulator

As we head north to Aberdeen, our acca is down to three selections this week due to the withdrawal of Gerwyn Price - our selections coming in at 24/5.

Peter Wright vs Michael Smith – Smith to win & hit the most 180s @ Evens

Wright’s struggles in the 2024 BetMGM Premier League are there for all to see. Snakebite has failed to show the form that saw him crowned world champion in 2020 and 2022 and sits bottom of the league table as well as the standings for three-dart average and 180s. Smith harbours play-off hopes and will back himself to win this one – as do we. With his 79 total maximums compared to Wright’s meagre 35, as well as sitting in second place for average 180s, we are adding the Smith match winner and most 180s double to the acca at Evens.

Luke Littler vs Nathan Aspinall – Aspinall to win with +1.5 Handicap @ 9/10

An intriguing clash, this one. Aspinall has recovered brilliantly from a winless opening three nights to sit in third place with two nightly wins to his name – in fact, he has only failed to make at least the semi-final twice since then.

The pair have met five times already in the competition this year and Littler staged a thrilling comeback to win 6-5 in last week’s semi-final. Littler, of course, has been in brilliant form and arrives in Aberdeen having won the European Tour 5 event in Austria at the weekend. Regardless, we expect another close-run match this week and, though Aspinall has won just one of the five meetings, we think the 9/10 for him to win the match with a +1.5 legs handicap advantage represents excellent value.

Michael van Gerwen to beat Rob Cross @ 11/20

Van Gerwen sits in the top four, but due to suffering seven quarter-final defeats, his place in the play-offs is not as secure as it perhaps once looked and is by no means guaranteed. Cross, however, is relying on an extreme set of results over the next three weeks to make it to the O2 despite an improved performance last week.

Cross has won the last two Premier League matches between the pair 6-2 and simply has to pick up points here. That said, MVG is a man who can cope under pressure and, with his top-four spot under threat, we’re backing him to hold his nerve here and further strengthen his play-off place with a victory at at 11/20 to complete our treble.

Night 14 Odds & BetMGM Specials

With a free pass into the semi-finals, Luke Humphries enters Night 14 as favourite to win the night. He is priced at Luke Humphries at 13/8, ahead of league leader Luke Littler, who is 9/4. Michael van Gerwen is 5/1 for a fifth nightly win having made the final at this venue in 2022, with Michael Smith priced at 9/1.

The impressive Nathan Aspinall can be backed at an interesting 9/1, with Rob Cross 12/1 and home hope Peter Wright 33/1.

Smith leads the way for the number of nights with the highest checkout, having done so on four occasions. If you reckon he can repeat the feat in Aberdeen it carries odds of 5/1. Fancy Wright to spring a homecoming surprise and nail the highest finish of the evening? That’s an intriguing 10/1.

Elsewhere it's 7/1 for Aberdeen to host the second nine-dart finish of this year's competition while markets such as total evening 180s, over/under three-dart average, King of the Oche and specific doubles to be hit are all live should you fancy backing something a bit different.

BetMGM has a host of other markets available in-play throughout the evening so be sure to keep an eye on the BetMGM Premier League Darts Hub over the course of Night 14.
