BetMGM Premier League Darts Night 9 Preview & Tips: A Record-Breaker for Humphries?

We saw a record-equalling night in Dublin last week, as Luke Humphries became only the third player to win three BetMGM Premier League Darts nights in a row. Humphries has extended his lead at the top of the table to seven points over Michael van Gerwen who continues to struggle and is without a win in four weeks. As the competition heads to Belfast, can anyone stop Humphries from winning a record fourth night in a row?

Michael Smith made another appearance in the final on Night 8, losing 6-2 to Humphries in his second final in three weeks, while Gerwyn Price rediscovered some form, progressing to the semi-finals where he was narrowly defeated by Bully Boy. There was a quarter-final exit for Luke Littler, and Peter Wright was unable to build on his win over Price in Nottingham, succumbing 6-1 to Humphries.

Before we share our picks for our acca as well as our weekly specials, let’s take a run-through of the BetMGM Premier League fixtures, as the tournament returns to the SSE Arena in Belfast.

BetMGM Premier League Darts Night 9 Fixtures

To break the record, Humphries will have to get past Luke Littler in the first quarter-final of Night 9, and Littler has beaten him on all of the three occasions since the PDC World Championships final in January, including twice in the Premier League. The Nuke however has yet to win a night in the 2024 BetMGM Premier League, and exited at the quarter-final stage on Night 8.

Humphries defeated Michael Smith 6-2 in the final in Dublin, and Bully Boy faces Michael van Gerwen in the second quarter-final on Night 9. Smith has moved to within two points of the Dutchman in the table and sits in fourth place, following two final appearances in the last three nights. Van Gerwen, meanwhile, really needs to recapture the form shown in the early stages of the competition, which saw him win three of the first four nights.

Nathan Aspinall and Gerwyn Price are next up, with both players making the semi-finals last time out. The Asp lost out to eventual winner Luke Humphries having beaten Rob Cross in the quarter-final, while Price was beaten narrowly by Michael Smith, but his performance in Dublin was a vast improvement on previous weeks. Both men need to pick up points this week, as the competition moves towards the business end.

Struggling Peter Wright is last up against Rob Cross as he looks for just his second win of the competition. Snakebite was comprehensively beaten 6-1 in Dublin by Luke Humphries, and the quarter-final win over Gerwyn Price in Nottingham remains his sole victory. Cross will be eyeing this one as a way to get back on track, having lost in the previous two quarter-finals.

20/1 BetMGM Premier League Darts Night 9 Accumulator

As the BetMGM Premier League Darts heads to Belfast, our weekly accumulator is here, with picks from each of the four quarter-finals from Night 9.

On the verge of BetMGM Premier League Darts history, table-topping Luke Humphries gets the evening underway against Luke Littler. The world champion has been in irresistible form the last three weeks, but Littler could pose a different challenge and threaten Cool Hand’s bid for four wins in a row.

The way Humphries has been playing though, it’s hard to look past him and the 180s market is where we are heading for our first pick. The world number one has been hitting maximums with ease, topping the nightly rankings for the last two weeks and leading way for tournament 180s with 66 - 11 more than nearest challenger Michael Smith. Having hit 14 last week and 12 the week before, we’re backing Humphries to hit the maximums in the opening game, and going with the 10/11 for him to hit over 3.5.

The second quarter final sees Night 8 runner-up Michael Smith take on an out-of-sorts Michael van Gerwen. MVG is without a Premier League win since Night 4 in Newcastle, and has suffered Players Championship defeats in recent weeks to Peter Wright and Daryl Gurney, as well as exiting the UK Open in the second round. Smith’s improved BetMGM Premier League performances of late have seen him move up into fourth place and to within two points of the Dutchman. He will be targeting the night in Belfast to move ahead of him, and he is good value to win this one at 5/4.

We have Nathan Aspinall and Gerwyn Price up next, with the Welshman needing to pick up points to climb towards the right end of the table. Price overcame Michael van Gerwen last week before narrowly losing out to Michael Smith in the semi-final, and faces a difficult match here with The Asp showing good Premier League form. The winner in Exeter, Aspinall has had a runner-up spot since and has only one quarter-final defeat since Night 3. This could be a close one, so we’re looking to the checkout markets for our acca choice. Price has the highest average weekly highest checkout in the competition with 110.83 and has already hit a 170 and a 160 checkout, so we’re backing him to have the highest checkout in this one, at 10/13.

Rob Cross against Peter Wright is the final quarter-final on Night 9, and this looks a good opportunity for Voltage to get back on track after two consecutive quarter-final defeats. It is no secret that Wright has struggled in this year's BetMGM Premier League Darts, with his last two games being 6-1 defeats to table-topping Luke Humphries. Cross got the better of Snakebite on the opening night in Cardiff, and will be aiming for another victory here. With the pair bottom of the rankings for matches containing over 8.5 legs, we are going for this one to have under 8.5, which is priced at 15/8 to complete the acca.

Night 9 Accumulator

  • Luke Humphries over 3.5 180s v Luke Littler
  • Michael Smith to beat Michael van Gerwen
  • Gerwyn Price to have the highest checkout vs Nathan Aspinall
  • Rob Cross vs Peter Wright under 8.5 legs.

Night 9 Odds & BetMGM Specials

A range of markets are available for the BetMGM Premier League Darts in addition to our accumulator, so let's take a look at some of the Specials for Night 9 in Belfast.

Luke Humphries will make BetMGM premier League history should he win Night 9 overall, and is in incredible form, averaging 102.70 across the whole tournament. We have boosted Cool Hand to 5/2 to make it a record-breaking four consecutive nightly wins.

Trying to stop Humphries is Luke Littler, who is available at 10/3 to win in Belfast and get his first Premier League nightly win. Last year’s runner-up at this venue Michael van Gerwen is 11/2, while winner here in 2022 Gerwyn Price is 5/1.

Rob Cross is available at 15/2, with Michael Smith and Night 5 winner Nathan Aspinall both priced at 12/1. Peter Wright, with just two points to his name so far, can be backed at 20/1 to win the night.

A nine-darter continues to evade us so far in the 2024 BetMGM Premier League Darts. Belfast though has history for perfect legs, as this was the venue in which Gerwyn Price hit two nine-dart finishes in one night back in 2022. We have boosted odds of 8/1 for a nine-dart finish to be hit at any point.

We have also priced Michael Smith, Nathan Aspinall and Rob Cross to win their quarter-final matches at 7/1. Cross is up against bottom-of-the-table Peter Wright and Smith plays a struggling MVG in his quarter final. Nathan Aspinall has enjoyed good form of late too, and will be looking to continue this in Belfast.

BetMGM has a host of other markets available before the night gets underway as well as in-play options throughout the evening, so be sure to keep an eye on the BetMGM Premier League Darts Hub over the course of Night 9.
