PDC World Darts Championship 2023 Preview and Tips

The greatest show in darts is ready for lift-off as the kings of the oche get ready to take centre stage at Alexandra Palace in London.

The 31st PDC World Darts Championship begins on December 15 when number one seed and reigning champion Michael Smith kicks off the defence of the title he won for the first time in thrilling fashion last January.

Railed against ‘Bully Boy’ are another 95 players from across the globe, all hoping that they will be the one holding aloft the Sid Waddell Trophy on January 3.

Three-time winner Michael van Gerwen plus former champions Gerwyn Price, Peter Wright and Gary Anderson are among the big names who will be on many people's shortlists.

But it is Luke Humphries, a player who had not won a major televised title until as recently as October, who heads the betting at 3/1 after a sparkling autumn in which he picked up the World Grand Prix, the Grand Slam of Darts and the Players Championship Finals.

Tip 1 – Rob Cross to win the PDC World Championship @ 14/1

Rob Cross, as one of seven former PDC world champions in the field, knows what it takes to go all the way at the Ally Pally and he has to fancy he can reclaim a title he won in 2018.

More than two years have passed since ‘Voltage’ won the last of his four major titles and he has been through some tough times.

But in 2023 the 33-year-old from Sussex has produced some of his best darts for years while winning on the Pro Tour and the European Tour as well as two World Series events in Australia and New Zealand respectively.

On top of that, Cross has been producing in the televised events this autumn, including a run to the Grand Slam final where a 103 average wasn't enough to land a mark on man-of-the-moment Humphries.

As the eighth seed this year, Cross finds himself in the opposite half of the draw to both Humphries and Van Gerwen – it is a draw that should leave the 14/1 shot feeling seriously bullish about his prospects.

Tip 2 –Stephen Bunting to win the PDC World Championship @ 33/1

There is no doubt that Humphries is the in-form man in the field but 3/1 for a player who has never won the world title before is a leap of faith. This is a long, high-pressure three weeks of sustained quality and even the very best players can fall short.

He is Evens just to win his quarter of the draw, a section where obstacles en route to landing those odds could include Joe Cullen and Nathan Aspinall, two hugely impressive arrowsmiths who are quite capable of toppling ‘Cool Hand Luke’ on a good day.

If Cross is taken to emerge from the top half, then Stephen Bunting gets the nod from the bottom half.

Not one of the seven PDC world champions in the 96-player field, Bunting did win the BDO version at the Lakeside way back in 2014 and has reached the semis and the quarters at the Palace in two of the last three runnings.

‘The Bullet’ is playing better than this year than he has for some time, culminating in a run to the last eight of the Players Championship Finals and the last four of the Grand Slam, where he saw off Dave Chisnall, Wright and Danny Noppert.

Tip 3 – Quarter 2 Winner James Wade @ 9/1

The big guns in Quarter 2 are Wright, who is enduring a terrible year, and Price, the pantomime villain of the oche who has never warmed to a venue where his only win came when no fans were allowed in.

Both are class but fragile and are well worth opposing in quarter betting with the likes of Raymond van Barneveld, James Wade and Anderson sharing the sectional top billing.

Eleven-time major winner Wade gets the nod at 9/1. He may be something of a veteran now but he is still only 40 and is remains capable of throwing some world-class darts.

For those wary that Wade might lack the scoring power of some of the emerging stars, his quarter is actually overflowing with the old guard with the likes of Wright, Van Barneveld and Anderson also joined by Andrew Gilding, Brendan Dolan and Simon Whitlock.

That will suit Wade, who beat Humphries on his way to the European Championship final in October and the likes of Smith and Josh Rock when reaching the semis at last month's Grand Slam.

BetMGM Premier League Darts: Night 1 Preview & Tips

The opening night is so close to call as the 2024 BetMGM Premier League Darts campaign kicks off in Cardiff.

With eight of the world’s best players facing off over the course of the evening, resulting in a final at the end of the night, who can get their campaign off to the perfect start?

Before we look at the night’s action let’s remind ourselves of the 2024 BetMGM Premier League Darts format.

BetMGM Premier League Darts Format

The BetMGM Premier League will feature a nightly eight-person knockout bracket, where each of the seven matches will be played in a first-to-six-legs format. In the initial seven weeks, players are assured of facing one another once in the quarter-finals while a similar arrangement occurs in weeks 9-15.

The match-ups in weeks 8 and 16 are determined based on the league standings at those respective points. Players earn two points for reaching the semi-finals, three points for finishing runner-up and five points for winning the final.

After the league phase, the top four players in the standings will engage in two knockout semi-finals with the player in first place facing the player in fourth and the player in second taking on the player in third.

The eight darts players participating in the 2024 BetMGM Premier League are:

BetMGM Premier League Darts Night 1 Fixtures

The competition gets going at Cardiff’s Utilita Arena on Thursday 1st February with a showstopper of a fixture list.

Getting the evening underway is two-time world champion Peter Wright against 2018 world titlist Rob Cross while second up is Welsh former world number one Gerwyn Price as he looks to put on a show for his home crowd against 2023 World Matchplay winner Nathan Aspinall.

The final two games of the quarter-finals see a repeat of the last two PDC World Championship finals as 2023 champion Michael Smith takes on seven-time Premier League champion Michael van Gerwen before new kid on the block Luke Littler takes on current world champion Luke Humphries in a repeat of the 2024 final.

Night 1 quarter-finals in full:

  • Peter Wright vs Rob Cross;
  • Gerwyn Price vs Nathan Aspinall;
  • Michael van Gerwen vs Michael Smith;
  • Luke Littler vs Luke Humphries

7/1 BetMGM Premier League Night 1 Accumulator

To kick off our Night 1 acca we are backing Rob Cross to beat Peter Wright at 4/11, with Cross winning 13 of the last 20 meetings between the pair.

Next up, Gerwyn Price will be looking to give the Cardiff crowd something to shout about and we’ve gone with the home support to help fire the Welshman to a sixth straight victory over Nathan Aspinall on our acca at 12/25.

If you fancy him to go a couple of steps further, Price is currently 9/2 with BetMGM to repeat his Cardiff feat from last year and win the Night 1 tournament overall.

Fresh from a record-breaking 914 tournament 180s in the 2024 PDC World Championship, we are backing over 6.5 180s at 6/5 for Michael van Gerwen’s match-up with Michael Smith. The last two meetings between them have contained seven and ten 180s across a first-to-seven-legs format respectively while Van Gerwen will be full of confidence after winning the Dutch Darts Masters in the lead-up to this one.

The final match of the quarter-finals could be an epic one as the two Lukes – Littler and Humphries – battle it out.

With nothing to separate them in the match odds, we’re going for a close game with little margin for error and our pick of over 9.5 total legs at 4/5 could make for an enthralling game as Littler looks to double up on his revenge for the World Championship final defeat following his 6-5 win over Humphries at the Dutch Darts Masters at the weekend.

Night 1 Accumulator:

  • Rob Cross to beat Peter Wright
  • Gerwyn Price to beat Nathan Aspinall
  • Michael van Gerwen v Michael Smith over 6.5 match 180s
  • Luke Humphries v Luke Littler over 9.5 legs

BetMGM Premier League Darts Night 3 Preview & Tips: Third time lucky for Littler?

It’s Night 3 of the 2024 BetMGM Premier League Darts with the ever-impressive OVO Hydro in Glasgow on hosting duties.

A thrilling evening in Berlin last week saw seven-time champion Michael van Gerwen triumph over Luke Littler in the final to claim his first nightly victory of the 2024 tournament and, with a few players still to get off the mark, Scotland promises to pick up where Germany left off.

Before we select our Night 3 accumulator, let’s take a run-through of the BetMGM Premier League fixtures for the first of the competition’s two visits to Scotland this season.

BetMGM Premier League Darts Night 3 Fixtures

First up in Glasgow, 2018 world champion Rob Cross takes on Night 1 winner Michael Smith. Defeated in the semi-final by Michael van Gerwen last week, Smith will be hoping to get back on track against Cross, who exited at the quarter-final stage on Night 2.

Fresh from victory, Van Gerwen takes on Scotland’s Peter Wright in the second clash of the evening, with Snakebite hoping the home crowd can spur him on to a first victory of the 2024 Premier League. It won’t be easy against MVG however, who staged two huge comebacks on his way to victory in Germany.

The penultimate game pits Nathan Aspinall against PDC world champion Luke Humphries. After leading 4-1 in the quarter-final on Night 2, Aspinall went on to lose 6-4 against Van Gerwen and will be looking to claim his first 2024 BetMGM Premier League Darts win against Humphries, who lost to Luke Littler for the second week in a row in Berlin.

Rounding off the quarter-finals is Littler himself as he takes on seven-time PDC major winner Gerwyn Price. After losing 6-5 in the final last week Littler faces the Iceman, himself a beaten finalist this year too after losing to Smith on Night 1 in Cardiff.

Night 3 quarter-finals in full: Rob Cross vs Michael Smith; Michael van Gerwen vs Peter Wright; Nathan Aspinall vs Luke Humphries; Gerwyn Price vs Luke Littler.

12/1 BetMGM Premier League Darts Night 3 Accumulator

After our Night 2 acca came in at 15/1, those of you who backed it will no doubt be waiting patiently for our Glasgow tips. Before that, though, let’s take a look back at the winning selections from last week as we look to make it another successful night.

The Winning 15/1 Night 2 Accumulator: Michael van Gerwen to beat Nathan Aspinall @ 4/11; Michael Smith vs Gerwyn Price over 6.5 match 180s @ 59/50; Luke Littler vs Rob Cross over 1.5 100+ checkouts @ 5/4; Luke Humphries to be ‘King of the Oche’ vs Peter Wright @ 7/5.

To kick off Night 3, we’re going for over 1.5 100+ checkouts when Michael Smith faces off against Rob Cross. With Smith hitting four in this season’s competition already – including a 170 last week – and Cross having registered ton-plus finishes on both nights so far, this looks good value to add to the acca at 6/4.

Last week’s victor Michael van Gerwen is up against Peter Wright who, despite pushing Luke Humphries in Berlin, remains winless. Even though the home crowd will be roaring Wright on, he has not won a Premier League match in Glasgow since 2017. It is difficult to look past the Dutchman in this one; MVG hit 13 180s while averaging 102.8 across his three matches in Berlin and is 4/5 to hit over 2.5 maximums in this game.

Also winless this year is world number four Nathan Aspinall, who faces a tricky game against Humphries. World champion Humphries struggled on Night 1 but regained some momentum last week, narrowly losing to Luke Littler.

He did toil again at Players Championships 1 and 2 in midweek though – going down 6-0 to Ian White and 6-5 to Jurjen van der Velde respectively – so Aspinall will be looking to push him all the way in Glasgow. With all of the games on Night 2 containing over 9.5 legs, we’re backing this to happen again in the penultimate quarter-final at 10/11.

Completing the quarter-finals is a highly anticipated match between Luke Littler and Gerwyn Price. We’re expecting a cracker of a contest and are backing Littler to just edge it if he can build on his average of 101.77 from Night 2, especially likely given he is fresh from his debut win at Players Championship 1 in Wigan earlier this week.

Price had a tricky time in the same tournament, culminating in him withdrawing from his match, so Littler to win at 3/5 completes our acca for Night 3 of the 2024 BetMGM Premier League Darts.

Night 3 Accumulator

  • Michael Smith vs Rob Cross over 1.5 100+ checkouts
  • Michael van Gerwen to hit over 2.5 180s vs Peter Wright
  • Nathan Aspinall vs Luke Humphries over 9.5 legs
  • Luke Littler to beat Gerwyn Price

Night 3 Odds & Specials

As well as our own acca, BetMGM carries odds on a plethora of outcomes for Night 3 of Premier League Darts action.

Michael Smith and Gerwyn Price both hit 170 checkouts last week – if you fancy there will be a repeat of the feat in the quarter-final games this time round then one in Smith vs Rob Cross is 8/1 and one in Price vs Luke Littler is 15/2. You can also get 5/2 with BetMGM for a 170 checkout in any match for a 170 checkout in any match during the evening.

Michael van Gerwen is the favourite to be crowned overall winner of Night 3 at 11/4. The Dutchman is favoured just ahead of Luke Littler, who is 3/1 to claim his first-ever BetMGM Premier League Darts victory. If you fancy the Scottish crowd to roar on Peter Wright and help him overturn his recent run of poor form, you can get odds of 40/1 for him to win his home night.

We have odds of 8/1 for a nine-dart finish to be hit on Night 3. Luke Littler was the last of the Premier League’s eight players to hit a nine-darter and has already hit two in 2024, in the Bahrain Masters last month and the Players Championship event in Wigan earlier this week. No PDC event has contained more nine-dart finishes than the BetMGM Premier League’s 14 – will Glasgow bring us the first perfect leg of this year’s tournament?

BetMGM has a host of markets available before the night gets underway as well as in-play throughout the evening, so be sure to keep an eye on the Premier League Darts event page over the course of the matches.

BetMGM Premier League Darts Night 4 Preview & Tips: A Van Gerwen hat-trick in Newcastle?

It’s Night 4 of the 2024 BetMGM Premier League Darts and Newcastle’s turn to host as the tournament rolls into the Utilita Arena on the banks of the River Tyne.

An exciting night in Glasgow last time out saw seven-time champion Michael van Gerwen beat world number one Luke Humphries in the final to claim his second consecutive nightly victory of the 2024 tournament.

Newcastle has a brilliant night in store but, before we select our Night 4 accumulator, let’s take a run-through of the BetMGM Premier League fixtures for the competition’s visit to the north-east.

BetMGM Premier League Darts Night 4 Fixtures

First up in Newcastle, Night 1 winner Michael Smith takes on 2020 Premier League runner-up Nathan Aspinall. Yet to get off the mark in the 2024 BetMGM Premier League, the Asp will be looking for a strong performance against Bully Boy following last week's 6-3 reverse against Luke Humphries. Also defeated in the quarter-final last week, Smith will be hoping to recapture the form that saw him storm to victory in Cardiff.

Having been runner-up in Glasgow, world champion Humphries is next up as he takes on 2018 PDC world titlist Rob Cross. Humphries lost out to Michael van Gerwen last week and, in Cross, is up against a player yet to really hit his stride this year with just two wins to his name.

The penultimate game pits Peter Wright against youngster Luke Littler. Littler was beaten 6-5 in the quarters by Gerwyn Price last week and will be aiming to rectify that against Wright who, despite showing flashes of his old self recently, remains bottom of the table.

Rounding off the quarter-finals is Van Gerwen as he targets a third win in a row. He will have to get past seven-time PDC major winner Gerwyn Price in Newcastle to do so and, with a final and a semi-final under his belt already in this year’s BetMGM Premier League, the Iceman will be aiming to go one step further here.

Night 4 quarter-finals in full: Michael Smith vs Nathan Aspinall; Rob Cross vs Luke Humphries; Peter Wright vs Luke Littler; Gerwyn Price vs Michael van Gerwen

20/1 BetMGM Premier League Darts Night 4 Accumulator

We have put together a 20/1 acca to get you in the mood for some Thursday night darts in Newcastle.

Night 1 winner Michael Smith has struggled to recapture that form in subsequent nights but we’re backing him to kick off Night 4 with a win against Nathan Aspinall. Yet to get off the mark in the 2024 BetMGM Premier League, Aspinall suffered a 6-2 defeat in Players Championship 3 this week to world number 50 Rowby-John Rodriguez and we’re going for a Smith victory at 7/10.

Next up we have Rob Cross taking on world champion Luke Humphries and, based on last week’s maximums, we’re adding over 6.5 180s to the acca at 6/5. With 13 180s overall in Glasgow, Humphries hit the most maximums and Cross himself hit four in both of his games. The third quarter-final sees Luke Littler take on Peter Wright, who suffered defeat at the hands of overall winner Michael van Gwewen in front of his home Scottish crowd. Littler will be hoping Night 4 is the night he finds his groove after a few weeks of mixed form.

We’re backing the Nuke to come good here. It’s 27/25 for Littler to hit the most 180s and have the highest checkout and even in defeat against Gerwyn Price last week he hit 4 maximums and a finish of 138. Facing an opponent who has averaged just 90 since the start of December, this selection makes sense.

Completing the quarter-finals is a cracker of a match between Gerwyn Price and Michael van Gerwen. Having won the last two nights in Berlin and Glasgow, Van Gerwen is looking for a hat-trick but faces a formidable opponent in the Welshman.

It’s bound to be an interesting match and one we think will contain high checkouts. MVG hit a 136 checkout last week while Price boasted the highest checkout on Night 1 and then landed a 170 on Night 2. Add to this the fact the Iceman leads the league for 100+ checkouts with five in six matches and it seems natural to add both players to hit a 100+ checkout at 15/8 to round off our Night 4 acca.

Night 4 Accumulator

  • Michael Smith to beat Nathan Aspinall
  • Rob Cross vs Luke Humphries over 6.5 180s
  • Luke Littler highest checkout & most 180s vs Peter Wright
  • Gerwyn Price vs Michael van Gerwen both players to hit a 100+ checkout

Night 4 Odds & BetMGM Specials

As well as our own acca, BetMGM carries odds on a plethora of outcomes for Night 4 of Premier League Darts action.

After winning the last two nights, Michael van Gerwen will be looking to equal his own record-breaking run of three BetMGM Premier League Darts nightly wins in a row — a record he shares with Michael Smith after both players achieved the feat in last year's tournament. He is available at 7/2 with BetMGM to win Night 4.

Despite the Dutchman’s fine form, it is actually Luke Littler who starts the night as favourite, with odds of 5/2 to be Night 4 victor. At 7/2 is Luke Humphries while Night 1 champion Michael Smith looks decent value at 9/1 as does last year’s Newcastle winner Gerwyn Price at 6/1.

No PDC event has contained more nine-dart finishes than the BetMGM Premier League’s 14. Though we came so close to seeing the perfect leg in Glasgow – with both Price and Aspinall missing double 12 for a nine-darter – the 2024 tournament is still to provide us with one. We have odds of 8/1 for a nine-dart finish to be hit at any point in Newcastle. Can the north-east crowd roar the players on to something special?

We have also got some BetMGM Specials for you to check out for Night 4. The competition has seen the 180s increase night by night, with 50 maximums hit overall in Glasgow last week alone. As such, we have priced up over 5.5 180s in each quarter-final match at 19/2.

Elsewhere, Littler & Smith both to be Kings of the Oche (win the match, hit the highest checkout and hit the most 180s) in their quarter-final matches against Peter Wright and Nathan Aspinall respectively is 12/1.

BetMGM has a host of other markets available before the night gets underway as well as in-play throughout the evening, so be sure to keep an eye on the BetMGM Premier League Darts Hub over the course of the evening.

BetMGM Premier League Darts Night 5 Preview & Tips: Can anyone stop Van Gerwen?

A pulsating Night 4 of 2024 BetMGM Premier League Darts saw Michael van Gerwen triumph for the third week in a row in Newcastle.

As the competition rolls into Exeter this week attention turns to which, if any, of the other seven players can stop the Dutchman from claiming an eighth BetMGM Premier League Darts title.

After overcoming Gerwyn Price and Luke Littler in Newcastle Van Gerwen triumphed over Nathan Aspinall – who got his first two wins of the competition in the north-east – in the Night 4 final.

Night 5 in Exeter promises to be yet another cracker but, before we share our picks for our acca as well as our weekly specials, let’s take a run-through of the BetMGM Premier League fixtures for the visit to the south-west.

BetMGM Premier League Darts Night 5 Fixtures

Having won the last three nights, it seems suitable that Michael van Gerwen would be first up in Exeter. He takes on world champion Luke Humphries who, having been runner-up to Van Gerwen in Glasgow, was defeated at the quarter-final stage in Newcastle by Rob Cross. Cool Hand will be hoping to get his BetMGM Premier League campaign back on track as he sits sixth in the table at this early stage despite carrying the highest average (101.5) of any player.

Nathan Aspinall finally hit some form on Night 4, getting his first wins of the 2024 competition and eventually finishing runner-up to MVG. The Asp takes on the winless Peter Wright in the second quarter-final this week. Snakebite is showing signs of his old self on the floor events and in Newcastle, where he averaged 103 and missed a match dart before eventually going down 6-5 to Luke Littler.

In the penultimate game The Iceman Gerwyn Price takes on Cross. Price was beaten by Van Gerwen in Newcastle and is yet to progress past a semi-final since finishing runner-up on his home night in Cardiff on Night 1. Cross lost out to Aspinall last week but made the semis for the second week in a row and will be hoping to go one step further in the south-west.

Rounding off the quarter-finals is the only nightly winner not named Van Gerwen so far this year: Michael Smith. Bully Boy won the first night in Cardiff but has lost in the quarter-finals for the past two. He takes on Littler, who has one runner-up finish so far. Can the youngster finally take the next step and become champion in Exeter on Night 5?

Night 5 quarter-finals in full: Luke Humphries vs Michael van Gerwen; Nathan Aspinall vs Peter Wright; Gerwyn Price vs Rob Cross; Luke Littler vs Michael Smith

20/1 BetMGM Premier League Darts Night 5 Accumulator

We have put together a 20/1 acca to get you in the mood as the 2024 BetMGM Premier League visits Exeter.

Michael van Gerwen and Luke Humphries kick off Night 5 and we are heading straight to the 180s market for this one. Van Gerwen had the joint-highest maximums in Newcastle while the week prior Humphries topped the 180s chart. Add on to that the fact they sit fifth and second respectively in the PDC’s maximums list over the past year and we are adding over 6.5 180s in their quarter-final tie to our acca for Night 5 at 6/5.

Next up we have the runner-up in Newcastle, Nathan Aspinall, facing Peter Wright. With Snakebite still looking for a win and sitting bottom of the table, the Asp will be eyeing this one as a way to get off to a good start for the second week running.

Wright will have other ideas after we saw glimpses of the two-time world champion’s old self last week. If he is feeling it again in Exeter this becomes a genuinely close one to call. The Scot lost out 6-5 to Luke Littler last week while Aspinall’s matches on Night 4 contained 11, 10 and 10 legs respectively – as such we are opting for over 9.5 legs here at 17/20.

We have Gerwyn Price and Rob Cross battling it out next in a match between two players who have liked the sound of a 100+ checkout so far in the competition.

Price has topped the nightly charts for ton-plus checkouts twice so far, including a 170, with Cross taking the mantle in Glasgow with a 144. The pair sit first and third respectively in the overall 100+ checkouts list this BetMGM Premier League Darts season, with Price six in seven matches and Cross five in seven. Both to check out 100+ in their Exeter quarter-final tussle is 2/1.

Sticking with checkouts, the final game throws up an interesting match-up between Littler and Michael Smith. A 170 in Newcastle saw Littler’s celebration go viral when he hit the bullseye while Smith has reeled in a big fish of his own already this campaign too. Rounding off our acca for Night 5, therefore, is a bullseye finish in the match at 11/10.

Night 5 Accumulator

  • Michael van Gerwen vs Luke Humphries over 6.5 180s
  • Nathan Aspinall vs Peter Wright over 9.5 legs
  • Gerwyn Price and Rob Cross both to hit a 100+ checkout
  • Luke Littler vs Michael Smith to contain a bullseye checkout

Night 5 Odds & BetMGM Specials

As well as our own acca, BetMGM carries odds on a plethora of markets for Night 5 of Premier League Darts action.

After winning three nights in a row, Michael van Gerwen can break the BetMGM Premier League Darts record by winning four consecutive nights and it is no surprise that he starts as 11/4 favourite to win Night 5. MVG has also won in Exeter in both 2022 and 2023 so he may well take some stopping as he looks to break even more records.

Trying to halt his charge will be Luke Littler, 3/1, who will feel it is time he got one over on the three-time world champion after two league defeats to him already this term as well as a loss in the final of the Dutch Darts Masters.

Behind those two front-runners is PDC world champion Luke Humphries at 9/2 while Michael Smith – the only player in the 2024 BetMGM Premier League who has beaten MVG as well as the only other nightly winner this year – is priced at 10/1 to triumph in Exeter. Last week’s runner-up Nathan Aspinall, meanwhile, is available at 8/1.

We are of course still awaiting the first nine-dart finish of the 2024 BetMGM Premier League campaign. The fact remains, though, that no darts competition has featured more perfect legs, so can Exeter be the night we finally see a nine-darter? We have odds of 8/1 for a nine-dart finish to be hit at any point during the night.

We also have some BetMGM Specials for Night 5 for you to check out. Exactly 50 maximums were hit overall in both Night 3 in Glasgow and Night 4 in Newcastle last week and we have priced up over 5.5 180s in each quarter-final match at 8/1.

Elsewhere, Michael van Gerwen, Nathan Aspinall, Gerwyn Price and Luke Littler all to win their quarter-final ties, something which only the Iceman failed to do in Newcastle, sits at 7/1.

On top of that you can get 11/2 for MVG, Price and Aspinall to hit the highest checkout in their quarter-finals. Aspinall did so last week against Michael Smith while Price and Van Gerwen faced one another and both hit a 100+ finish.

BetMGM has a host of other markets available before the night gets underway as well as in-play options throughout the evening, so be sure to keep an eye on the BetMGM Premier League Darts Hub over the course of Night 5.

BETMGM PREMIER LEAGUE DARTS NIGHT 6 PREVIEW & TIPS: COULD HUMPHRIES' WAIT BE OVER?

A blockbuster Night 5 in Exeter saw the Michael van Gerwen train halted as Nathan Aspinall triumphed to claim his first nightly victory of the 2024 BetMGM Premier League Darts season.

It is Brighton’s turn to host this week and MVG will be looking to bounce back from last week’s quarter-final exit, with a host of other players hoping to get their first successes of the 2024 tournament.

Aspinall overcame Rob Cross with a convincing 6-2 victory in the Exeter final, going one better than his runner-up placing in Newcastle a week prior. A fine night from the Asp saw him play his best darts of the tournament so far to join Van Gerwen and Michael Smith as the only players with nightly wins to their names this year.

Peter Wright remains pointless at the foot of the table, while Gerwyn Price and the two Lukes – Littler and Humphries – still await that first night victory.

We have another fantastic night of action in store on Night 6 in Brighton but, before we share our picks for our acca as well as our weekly specials, let’s take a run-through of the BetMGM Premier League fixtures for the visit to the south coast.

BetMGM Premier League Darts Night 6 Fixtures

Following a thumping defeat last week at the hands of Rob Cross, Gerwyn Price will be looking to bounce back as he is first up in Brighton against Luke Humphries.

Only a 160 checkout prevented the Welshman from a 6-0 whitewash on Night 5 and he will have to be a lot better to overcome Humphries, who became the first person to beat Michael van Gerwen since way back on Night 1. Cool Hand also boasts the tournament's highest average (100.68).

Rob Cross averaged an impressive 109.69 in the last eight on his way to finishing runner-up in Exeter and he faces Van Gerwen in the second quarter-final. Voltage came close to a nine-darter last week and was mightily impressive in both the quarter and semi-finals before finding Nathan Aspinall too hot to handle.

Next up, last week’s winner Aspinall takes on Luke Littler. The Asp finally found top form in Exeter and has some momentum after moving into the top four of the standings as a result. His opponent, meanwhile, lost 6-3 to Cross in the second semi-final and is yet to win a night despite sitting second in the overall standings.

Rounding off the quarter-finals is Night 1 winner Michael Smith, who takes on bottom-of-the-table Peter Wright. Snakebite looked to be finding some form despite defeat in Newcastle but struggled last week in Exeter, averaging 91.13 on his way to a 6-4 reverse at the hands of Aspinall. Wright did manage a 156 checkout and will surely be hoping Night 6 can provide him with some relief from what has been a torrid tournament so far.

It was the dream start for Smith in Cardiff but Bully Boy has found it hard to recapture that form since. Losing 6-2 to Luke Littler last week means the 2023 world champion is on a run of three consecutive quarter-final exits and will be eyeing up this one as the game to stop the rot.

Night 6 quarter-finals in full: Luke Humphries vs Gerwyn Price; Rob Cross v Michael van Gerwen; Nathan Aspinall v Luke Littler; Michael Smith vs Peter Wright

17/2 BetMGM Premier League Darts Night 6 Accumulator

As always, we have put together an acca to get you in the mood as the 2024 BetMGM Premier League visits Brighton.

Though he lost at the hands of overall winner Nathan Aspinall last week, Luke Humphries looked impressive during his victory in the quarter-final over Michael van Gerwen. He’s up against Gerwyn Price in Brighton and, though the Welshman hit an impressive 160 checkout, he averaged just 90.73 as he laboured to a 6-1 defeat against Rob Cross.

Humphries made the final of the UK Open at the weekend with a 100+ tournament average while Price exited in the fourth round to Martin Schindler. We’re backing Cool Hand to get the better of this one and get Night 6 underway with a win at 13/20.

Next up we have Cross, the runner-up in Exeter, facing Michael van Gerwen. We are heading straight to the 180s market for this one, with MVG leading the way for maximums with 38 in just 11 matches. Cross has 23 in 10 games and, though 180s were at a premium last week with just 32 in the whole night compared to 50 for two nights in succession, the likelihood is this was a mere blip and we’re going for over 4.5 180s in this one at 4/9 as a result.

We have Exeter winner Aspinall and Luke Littler battling it out next in a match that sees us looking at the possibility of 100+ checkouts.

Aspinall checked out on 160 twice last week on his way to victory, following on from an impressive 170 on Night 4 in Newcastle. Littler joined the Asp with a 170 finish in the Toon and like his Night 6 opponent has hit six overall in the 2024 BetMGM Premier League. Two or more of 100+ checkouts in this match comes in at 11/10.

Lastly we have Michael Smith up against Peter Wright, with both players struggling to get into a rhythm recently. After his Night 1 victory, Smith has failed to make a final and has suffered three quarter-final exits in a row. Wright, meanwhile, still is without a win in the 2024 BetMGM Premier League.

Snakebite did hit a bit of form in the UK Open before losing in the sixth round to Masters champion Stephen Bunting. Bully Boy was beaten a round earlier by Luke Woodhouse and, as such, a close match here seems a given.

With 75% of Smith’s Premier League matches so far going over 9.5 legs, that’s our choice at 9/10.

Night 5 Accumulator

Luke Humphries to beat Gerwyn Price Rob Cross vs Michael van Gerwen over 4.5 180s Nathan Aspinall vs Luke Littler 2 or more 100+ checkouts Michael Smith vs Peter Wright over 9.5 legs Priced at 17/2 with BetMGM

Night 6 Odds & BetMGM Specials

As well as our own acca, BetMGM carries odds on a plethora of markets for Night 6 of Premier League Darts action. It looks a close one to call in Brighton, with three players out in front as joint-favourites to be the night winner.

Michael van Gerwen will be looking to get back on track following last week’s quarter-final exit, and he is available alongside Luke Littler and Luke Humphries to win the night at *7/2**. MVG won in Brighton in 2022, so has form on this stage while 2023 winner Gerwyn Price is available at a lofty 6/1

Exeter victor Nathan Aspinall can be backed at 7/1 if you fancy him to make it two wins in a row, while runner-up Rob Cross is available at the same price. Peter Wright is 16/1 to spring a surprise on the south coast, while Michael Smith is 6/1 to clinch his second nightly win of the 2024 BetMGM Premier League.

After five weeks we are still awaiting the first nine-dart finish of the 2024 BetMGM Premier League campaign, with Cross coming closest to the perfect leg last week. Price was the last player to hit a nine-darter in the Premier League – doing so twice in the same night back in 2022 – and no darts competition has contained more perfect legs.

Add it to your betting slip

If you think Brighton will feature the first of this year’s tournament, we have odds of 7/1 for a nine-dart finish to be hit at any point during the night.

We also have some specific Night 6 BetMGM Specials for you. We have priced Littler, Van Gerwen and Humphries to hit the most 180s in their quarter-final matches at 11/2. Littler achieved this in Exeter against Michael Smith, while MVG and Humphries faced off against each other.

We had a dip in 180s on Night 5 but the two previous weeks had exactly 50 maximums so over 5.5 180s in the opening four games of the night at 11/1 could offer good value.

On top of that you can get 13/2 for Humphries, Van Gerwen, Littler and Smith to win their opening games and reach the semi-finals on the night.

BetMGM has a host of other markets available before the night gets underway as well as in-play options throughout the evening, so be sure to keep an eye on the BetMGM Premier League Darts Hub over the course of Night 6.

BETMGM PREMIER LEAGUE DARTS NIGHT 8 PREVIEW & TIPS: CAN HUMPHRIES BE HALTED IN DUBLIN?

Night 7 in Nottingham gave us a new leader atop the 2024 BetMGM Premier League Darts table as Luke Humphries won for the second consecutive week to knock Michael van Gerwen off top spot.

While it was a third quarter-final defeat in a row for the Dutchman, it was a night of relief for Peter Wright as a win over Gerwyn Price saw Snakebite get his first victory of the tournament.

Following a quarter-final win Wright couldn’t get past a Humphries in supreme form in the semi-finals while Luke Littler exited at the last-four stage for the third week running, losing out to an inspired Nathan Aspinall.

Despite looking in great form, Aspinall found Humphries too much to deal with as the world number one powered to a 6-3 win. Elsewhere on the night, Brighton runner-up Michael Smith couldn’t make it past the quarter-final while Price’s loss to Wright leaves the Welshman without a victory in four weeks.

The BetMGM Premier League Darts heads to Ireland this week with Night 8 taking place at Dublin’s 3Arena. Before we share our picks for our acca as well as our weekly specials, let’s take a run-through of the BetMGM Premier League fixtures as the tournament hops over the Irish Sea.

BetMGM Premier League Darts Night 8 Fixtures

The Night 8 fixtures are decided based on the current standings which means that first up we have top against bottom – Luke Humphries vs Peter Wright.

The current world champion has been in superb form in recent weeks – winning the last two nights of the BetMGM Premier League – while it’s no secret that Snakebite has struggled this year despite claiming his first win of the tournament last week in Nottingham. Humphries, though, will be looking to equal a record set by Michael van Gerwen and Michael Smith by winning three nights in a row.

The second match in Dublin sees fourth play fifth as Nathan Aspinall takes on Rob Cross for the second week running following their quarter-final on Night 7. The Asp was victorious on that occasion, just as he was in the final in Exeter where he claimed his first BetMGM Premier League Darts nightly win. Voltage will be looking for revenge and hope to move above his opponent in the standings.

Next up we have a battle of two players struggling for form as second plays seventh with Van Gerwen against Gerwyn Price. Following a storming start to the campaign which saw him win three nights out of the first four, MVG has struggled for form and hasn’t made it past the quarter-final since Night 4.

Price, meanwhile, was runner-up on the first night in Cardiff but has only made it past the quarter-final once since then so will be targeting the out-of-sorts Dutchman as a route to get back on track.

Finally, Luke Littler takes on Smith to round off the Dublin quarter-finals. Littler sits third in the table and is yet to win a night but his consistent performances mean he has made it to at least the semi-final on all but one evening. Smith has had a mixed tournament so far, winning the opening night and making the final in Brighton, but has suffered quarter-final defeats on four occasions.

Night 8 quarter-finals in full: Luke Humphries vs Peter Wright; Nathan Aspinall vs Rob Cross; Michael van Gerwen vs Gerwyn Price; Luke Littler vs Michael Smith

12/1 BetMGM Premier League Darts Night 8 Accumulator

As the BetMGM Premier League Darts heads to Ireland, we’ve put together an acca for the four quarter-final matches of Night 8.

Peter Wright, having won his first match of the 2024 Premier League Darts last week against Gerwyn Price, takes on an in-form Luke Humphries who seems to be getting better and better with each passing night.

The two faced off in the semi-final on Night 7 with Cool Hand running out a resounding 6-1 winner, putting an end to Wright’s brief revival. Humphries was dominant in that game and we can only see more of the same this week in Dublin. The man leading the league for total points, three-dart average and most 180s is 6/4 to be King of the Oche in this one (match winner, most 180s and highest checkout) and this is our choice to kick off the Night 8 acca.

Nathan Aspinall is up against Rob Cross again in the second semi-final with the Asp winning all three matches against Voltage in this year’s BetMGM Premier League, including last week’s quarter-final.

Cross, despite losing last week, has been steadily improving throughout the competition with three semi-final appearances and a runner-up spot in the four weeks prior. We’re backing Cross to get one over on Aspinall at the fourth time of trying at 7/10 as a result.

The match between Michael van Gerwen and Gerwyn Price is an intriguing one as, on paper, it is second against seventh and looks like nothing to worry about for MVG. He has been struggling in recent weeks though, losing 6-2 to Luke Littler in Nottingham and averaging just 94.83 and 93.48 in the two nights before that.

Price, meanwhile, is seemingly even more out of form, losing his last four BetMGM Premier League matches as well as failing to make it past the UK Open second round earlier this month after losing to Martin Schindler.

With this in mind – plus MVG winning 11 of the 12 Premier League matches he has played in Dublin including winning the night here last year – we are backing him to get back on track as part of our acca at 7/10.

Lastly we have Littler against Michael Smith. The Nuke continues to impress in his BetMGM Premier League Darts debut season yet remains without a nightly win – something his opponent managed at the first time of asking in Cardiff.

Littler has been consistent with his scoring and his plentiful semi-final appearances see him third in the table, just four points off top spot. Both players are hitting maximums consistently this season, with Littler on 49 180s and Smith 44 so far.

Add to that Smith topping the weekly 180s count twice so far, including hitting 15 in Brighton, and 4/5 for over 6.5 maximums looks good value in this one.

Night 8 Accumulator

  • Luke Humphries King of the Oche (win the match, hit most 180s, hit highest checkout) vs Peter Wright
  • Rob Cross to beat Nathan Aspinall
  • Michael van Gerwen to beat Gerwyn Price
  • Luke Littler vs Michael Smith over 6.5 180s

Night 8 Odds & BetMGM Specials

As well as our acca, BetMGM carries odds on a plethora of markets on all nights of Premier League Darts action. Who will come out on top in Ireland’s capital?

It continues to be hard to see past Luke Humphries. Cool Hand is very much in the rhythm and has averaged 102.14 for the tournament so far. He is 9/4 to make it three consecutive nightly wins.

Beyond the world champion, Luke Littler is 3/1 while last year’s Dublin victor Michael van Gerwen is 11/2.

Gerwyn Price is 8/1 to get his first BetMGM Premier League nightly win of the year while Rob Cross is available at 9/1, Night 5 champion Nathan Aspinall and opening night winner Michael Smith are both 12/1 and Peter Wright, after getting his first win last week in Nottingham, is the outsider at 20/1.

Still we await a nine-darter in the 2024 betMGM Premier League Darts, though we came agonisingly close in Nottingham when Littler missed double 12 to claim a first Premier League perfect leg and also to equal the record of the most nine-dart finishes in a season with four. We have odds of 7/1 for a nine-dart finish to be hit at any point.

We also have some Night 8 BetMGM Specials including a tasty-looking 10/1 for Humphries and Littler to win their quarter-final matches while also having the most 180s and the highest checkout. Littler achieved this in Nottingham in his match against Van Gerwen, while Humphries faces bottom-of-the-table Wright on Night 8.

Additionally, you can get 6/1 for Humphries, Van Gerwen and Littler to hit the most 180s in their quarter-final ties.

BetMGM has a host of other markets available before the night gets underway as well as in-play options throughout the evening, so be sure to keep an eye on the BetMGM Premier League Darts Hub over the course of Night 8.

BetMGM Premier League Darts Night 7 Preview & Tips: Littler’s Time at Last?

Night 6 in Brighton saw Luke Humphries end his wait for a maiden BetMGM nightly win and he did so in style, beating Michael Smith in the final to claim an impressive victory while averaging over 100 in all of his games and a huge 113.71 in the semi-final.

The trip to the south coast saw the gap at the top to Michael van Gerwen narrowed to three points and Night 7 in Nottingham will see the Dutchman looking to get back on track. A runner-up performance saw a return to form for Smith, while Rob Cross and Luke Littler made the semi-finals.

Week 5 winner Nathan Aspinall exited in the quarter-final to Littler, while Gerwyn Price continued to struggle by losing 6-2 to Humphries in the first match of the night. Former world champion Peter Wright remains without a point, rooted to the bottom of the table.

We have another fantastic night of action in store in Nottingham but, before we share our picks for our acca as well as our weekly specials, let’s take a run-through of the BetMGM Premier League fixtures as the tournament visits the East Midlands.

BetMGM Premier League Darts Night 7 Fixtures

First up is a basement battle between two players struggling for form in the 2024 BetMGM Premier League Darts.

The match between Peter Wright and Gerwyn Price represents a chance for Snakebite to get his first win of the tournament and the Iceman with an opportunity to get back at it after three consecutive quarter-final exits.

A runner-up spot and a semi-final appearance in the first three nights got the Welshman off to a reasonable start so Nottingham, where he won last season, could be the venue to turn it around for Price. For Wright, it seems like now or never if he wants to make any serious waves in this year’s competition.

Next up is a repeat of the final in Brighton with winner Luke Humphries against runner-up Michael Smith. Cool Hand was in scintillating form last week, racing into a 5-1 lead against Smith before eventually winning 6-3 while averaging over 100 and throwing five 180s. Smith played well on Night 6, beating Wright and Luke Littler before finding Humphries just too hot to handle. Can he get revenge on the Nottingham stage?

Since winning three consecutive nights in Berlin, Glasgow and Newcastle, Michael van Gerwen has suffered quarter-final defeats for two weeks in a row. He is up against Littler, who since Night 6 has not only won the Belgian Open but hit another nine-dart finish in the process to take his total in 2024 to three.

The youngster will be eying this one up against an out-of-form MVG to get his latest bid to win a BetMGM Premier League Darts night off to a flyer. Van Gerwen is looking far from his best and followed a disappointing couple of weeks with a defeat to Wright in the Belgian Open second round.

Rob Cross lost to Littler in the Belgian Open final despite averaging 108, and he is last up in the quarter-finals against Nathan Aspinall. The Asp won Night 5 in Exeter and beat Cross in the final – will we see a repeat of the 6-2 victory or can Cross build on impressive wins against Price and Van Gerwen to progress?

Night 7 quarter-finals in full: Peter Wright vs Gerwyn Price; Luke Humphries vs Michael Smith; Michael van Gerwen vs Luke Littler; Rob Cross vs Nathan Aspinall

22/1 BetMGM Premier League Darts Night 7 Accumulator

As always, we have put together an acca to get you in the mood as the 2024 BetMGM Premier League visits Nottingham.

A tricky one to call is first up on Night 7, with Peter Wright looking to get off the mark at the seventh time of asking as he faces Gerwyn Price. Price made the semi-final of the Belgian Open last weekend before losing out to Rob Cross, though neither the Iceman nor Wright managed a 100 average in the Premier League last week. Having the darts could be crucial in this one so we are predicting a close game; Wright did have match darts against Michael Smith last week and, with Price winning here last year, we’re backing over 8.5 legs at 4/11.

Luke Humphries was in brilliant form last week when he beat Smith in the final and, with the two facing off in this week’s quarter-final, we fancy Cool Hand Luke to be even better this time round. Bully Boy enjoyed a successful Week 6, averaging over 100 in the final in defeat to Humphries but could find it tough here. Humphries looks to be really hitting his stride lately and our pick here is the world champion to be King of the Oche at 3/1 as a result.

Hoping to build on his Belgian Open success will be Luke Littler and he faces a Michael van Gerwen playing well below his usual standards in recent weeks. Littler seems to be edging closer towards that first nightly win and hit a third nine-darter since January in his Belgian Open success, as well as averaging 103.76 in the 8-7 final win over Cross.

Van Gerwen, on the other hand, has gone four non-double-in matches in a row without averaging over 95 for the first time since 2012. We think Littler can take advantage of MVG’s dip in form by winning this one at 7/10.

Lastly we have Nathan Aspinall and Cross battling it out in a repeat of the final from Week 5 in Exeter. After a defeat last weekend to Luke Littler in the Belgian Open in a final in which he averaged 108, Cross will hope to go one further than Brighton’s semi-final defeat as he takes on the Asp.

Aspinall has a nightly win to his name already this year and will want to make a strong start in his bid for a second. These two have 15 100+ checkouts between them so far in the BetMGM Premier League and we’re backing them to get at least two more between them in Nottingham at 6/4.

Night 5 Accumulator

  • Peter Wright vs Gerwyn Price over 8.5 legs
  • Luke Humphries King of the Oche (win the match, hit most 180s, hit highest checkout) vs Michael Smith
  • Luke Littler to beat Michael van Gerwen
  • Rob Cross vs Nathan Aspinall 2 or more 100+ checkouts

Night 7 Odds & BetMGM Specials

As well as our own acca, BetMGM carries odds on a plethora of markets on all nights of Premier League Darts action. It is shaping up to be an intriguing contest in Nottingham – who can come out on top?

It seems difficult to look past Luke Humphries at the moment following last week's near-flawless display, which saw him not only average 113 in the final but also check out 143. Humphries is priced at 11/4 to make it consecutive nightly wins.

Beyond the world number one, Luke Littler is 3/1 while last year’s Nottingham winner Gerwyn Price is available at 5/1.

Michael van Gerwen is 11/2 to get his BetMGM Premier League tournament back on track while runner-up last week Michael Smith is 10/1, Rob Cross is 13/2 and Exeter champion Nathan Aspinall 12/1. Peter Wright, winless in the BetMGM Premier League but in good form in floor events, comes in at 20/1 to cause a shock.

We are still awaiting the first nine-dart finish of the 2024 BetMGM Premier League campaign but Littler hit yet another perfect leg in the Belgian Open last weekend, taking his 2024 total to three.

The most nine-dart finishes in a season by an individual is four –- hit by Van Gerwen in both 2016 and 2019 – can Littler equal the record in the tournament that has provided the most nine-darters of all? We have odds of 7/1 for a nine-dart finish to be hit at any point during the night and 20/1 for Littler to hit a perfect finish in any game on Night 7.

We also have some Night 7 BetMGM Specials for you. Price, Smith and Littler all to hit the most 180s in their quarter-final matches is 7/1. Littler achieved this in Brighton against Aspinall, while Smith won 5-0 on 180s in last week’s quarter-final.

Additionally, you can get 9/1 for Price, Humphries, Littler and Aspinall to win their opening games and reach the semi-finals on the night.

BetMGM has a host of other markets available before the night gets underway as well as in-play options throughout the evening, so be sure to keep an eye on the BetMGM Premier League Darts Hub over the course of Night 7.

BETMGM PREMIER LEAGUE DARTS NIGHT 11 PREVIEW & TIPS: LITTLER ON FOR HAT-TRICK?

The 2024 BetMGM Premier League Darts heads to Birmingham following last week’s trip to Manchester, which saw Luke Littler pick up his second consecutive nightly win.

A win over Gerwyn Price in the Manchester final saw Littler move into first place ahead of Luke Humphries. Former leader Humphries suffered his second consecutive quarter-final defeat after his run of three nightly wins in a row, with the world number one losing out 6-3 to Michael Smith. Nathan Aspinall now sits in third place ahead of Michael van Gerwen and made the semi-final at the AO Arena before coming unstuck against Littler.

Rob Cross continued his disappointing run of form with a quarter-final defeat to Aspinall while Peter Wright was defeated again, this time by Price. The Welshman also became the first player in the 2024 BetMGM Premier League Darts to hit a nine-darter with a perfect leg in the semi-final against Smith on his way to victory.

Night 10 in Manchester was a night packed full of explosive action, with Littler coming out on top as the 2024 BetMGM Premier League Darts saw yet more twists and turns. Before we share our picks for our acca as well as our weekly specials, let’s take a run-through of the Night 11 fixtures as the tournament arrives in the West Midlands.

BetMGM Premier League Darts Night 11 Fixtures

Peter Wright gets the evening underway with his quarter-final against Luke Humphries, in what seems a little bit of a mismatch based on this year’s tournament. Wright has really struggled to get going and has just two match wins to name, while Humphries, despite exiting at the quarter-final stage in the last two weeks, sits in second place in the table and has shown some blistering form.

Next up, Nights 9 and 10 winner Luke Littler is up against Rob Cross in the second quarter-final. Littler comes to Birmingham on the back of successive victories and will be looking for a hat-trick. Cross has struggled of late having not won a Premier League game since Night 6, has slipped to sixth in the standings and remains without a nightly win in this year’s tournament.

Littler, meanwhile, leads the way in top spot and can become the third player to win three nights in a row in the 2024 Premier League should he be victorious in Birmingham.

The third quarter-final sees last week’s runner-up Gerwyn Price take on Michael Smith in a repeat of their semi-final in Manchester. Both men are in the bottom four of the table and need to pick up points this week to boost their chances of making Play-offs Night.

Price hit a sensational nine-dart finish on Night 10 and lost out to an in-form Luke Littler in the final while Cross is without a win since he beat Michael van Gerwen in Brighton on Night 6. The Iceman can leapfrog Voltage with a win and both players will be hoping the Midlands can be a happy hunting ground as they seek their first nightly victory of the tournament.

In the last quarter-final we have Van Gerwen vs Nathan Aspinall, with the seven-time champion on a run of just one Premier League win in six weeks. Aspinall has recovered from a poor start to the competition to now sit in third place, one spot above MVG. The Dutchman beat the Asp in the final in Newcastle, so revenge could be on the cards here as both players look to cement their spot in the top four as the 2024 BetMGM Premier League Darts turns its focus towards Play-offs Night qualification.

Night 11 quarter-finals in full: Peter Wright vs Luke Humphries; Rob Cross vs Luke Littler; Gerwyn Price vs Michael Smith; Michael van Gerwen vs Nathan Aspinall

21/2 BetMGM Premier League Darts Night 11 Accumulator

As the 2024 BetMGM Premier League Darts heads to Birmingham, our weekly accumulator is here with picks from each of the four quarter-finals from Night 11 in the West Midlands.

Getting the evening underway, Peter Wright and Luke Humphries are two players who have experienced contrasting fortunes throughout the first 10 weeks of competition. Humphries has shown some brilliant form to blow away opponents, particularly in the three consecutive nightly wins. While he has been knocked off top spot, he still leads the way for overall tournament average and 180s.

Wright, meanwhile, sits bottom of the table with just four points to his name, though he did make the final in Birmingham last year. The pair faced off in consecutive weeks in Nottingham and Dublin, with Cool Hand winning 6-1 on both occasions. He was also King of the Oche in these two matches and we’re taking the 6/4 for him to win the match, have the highest checkout and the most 180s in this one too.

The second quarter-final sees table-topping Luke Littler play a struggling Rob Cross. The 2018 world champion hasn’t made it past the quarter-final stage in the last four weeks while Littler seems to be hitting his best form at just the right time.

They have one win apiece against each other in the 2024 BetMGM Premier League, and the Nuke won the meeting between the two in the final of the Belgian Open earlier this year into the bargain. Given the recent form of the two players, Littler to win at 4/11 seems the shout.

Runner-up in Manchester Gerwyn Price faces Michael Smith in quarter-final three, with the Welshman surely on a high following last week’s sensational nine-darter. A first final appearance since the opening week followed the perfect leg and, though he would go on to lose to Littler, Price showed moments of genuine brilliance on Night 10.

Smith has enjoyed some good form of late too – making the semi-final last week and the final on Night 8 – but is yet to add to his single nightly win so far, achieved back on the first night in Cardiff.

In an interesting match between two players having mixed tournaments, the checkouts market carries value. In addition to his nine-dart finish in Manchester, Price has checked out 160 and 170 in the competition and has had the highest checkout of the week on three occasions – the joint highest with Humphries. He has also hit a higher checkout than his opponent in 56% of matches, compared to Smith’s 44%, so we’re backing Price to have the highest checkout in this one too at 10/13.

Closing out the quarter-finals in Birmingham are Michael van Gerwen and Nathan Aspinall. Sitting in fourth and third place respectively, MVG and the Asp have met just twice in the 2024 BetMGM Premier League, with the Dutchman winning on both occasions. The pair battled it out a few times in last year’s competition, with both having success, though one of the games did result in a 6-0 whitewash for Van Gerwen.

Generally their meetings have been close, with all but one of the last seven Premier League contests featuring 10 legs or more, so 10/11 for over 9.5 legs in this one is a sensible choice to complete our Night 11 accumulator.

Night 11 Accumulator

  • Luke Littler to beat Rob Cross
  • Gerwyn Price to hit the highest checkout vs Michael Smith

Night 11 Odds & BetMGM Specials

Despite Luke Littler winning the last two nights, it is Luke Humphries who goes into Night 11 as 2/1 favourite to lift the trophy and storm back to the top of the table.

Littler has looked brilliant in the last two weeks, though he did lose in the last 16 of the Players Championship 7 to Ross Smith on Monday. He is priced at 12/5 to win in Birmingham, while third favourite is Michael van Gerwen at 5/1.

Manchester finalist Gerwyn Price is 6/1, Michael Smith is 12/1 and Nathan Aspinall is available at 14/1 while Rob Cross, without a win in four weeks, is 16/1 to win and bottom-of-the-table Peter Wright is the outsider once again at 33/1.

Night 10 in Manchester saw the first perfect leg of the competition as Price hit a magnificent nine-dart finish in his semi-final victory over Smith.

The BetMGM Premier League continues to deliver and ensure that no PDC competition has provided more perfect legs – and if you think Birmingham can make it back-to-back weeks for nine-darters, you can pick that up at odds of 9/2 for one to be hit at any point during the evening.

BetMGM has a host of other markets available before the night gets underway as well as in-play options throughout the evening, so be sure to keep an eye on the BetMGM Premier League Darts Hub over the course of Night 11.

BetMGM Premier League Darts Night 15 Preview & Tips: Littler on edge of glory as Smith chases top four

The 2024 BetMGM Premier League Darts heads to Leeds for the penultimate regular evening of action before London’s Play-offs Night and it is still all to play for as the battle for the top four approaches its conclusion.

Luke Littler’s victory last week in Aberdeen was his second in a row, and fourth overall, as his lead at the top of the table was extended to eight points. This means he is guaranteed a spot at the O2 next month. Joining him at Play-offs Night will be Luke Humphries. The world number one is assured of a place in the top four despite a Night 14 semi-final defeat to Rob Cross, himself keeping his faint play-off hopes alive.

It is a big ask for Cross, who will have to win both remaining nights to qualify. The task is slightly less difficult for Michael Smith who now sits just two points behind fourth-placed Michael van Gerwen and three ahead of Nathan Aspinall in third.

Two players we already know will not be appearing at the O2 are Gerwyn Price and Peter Wright, with the Welshman’s withdrawal from Night 14 ending his chances of a top-four finish, joining the already-eliminated Snakebite.

It’s time for Night 15 in Leeds as the fight for the 2024 BetMGM Premier League Play-offs Night heads toward a conclusion. Let’s take a run-through of the fixtures as the tournament makes its way to Yorkshire.

BetMGM Premier League Darts Night 15 Fixtures

First up in Leeds is Michael van Gerwen, who currently occupies the final spot in the top four. He faces Gerwyn Price, already eliminated following last week’s withdrawal through injury and essentially playing for pride in this one. Van Gerwen’s four nightly wins in the competition have come alongside eight quarter-final exits. With only bottom-of-the-table Peter Wright suffering more defeats in the quarter-finals, Price will be eyeing up this as an opportunity to pick up some morale-boosting points.

The second quarter-final sees top against bottom as Luke Littler takes on Wright. Back-to-back nightly wins in Liverpool and Aberdeen have sent the Nuke eight points clear of second-placed Luke Humphries – a third in a row here would give him an unassailable lead with one round remaining. Wright has struggled badly with just two wins in the whole campaign and is on a run of five consecutive Premier League defeats.

Quarter-final number three brings together Luke Humphries and Rob Cross in a repeat of the semi-final last week in Aberdeen. Cross won that one 6-5 and needs a similar performance and result this week if he has any hopes of making Play-offs Night. Humphries, meanwhile, has enjoyed a fine campaign but is without a win in the last two nights; his semi-final appearance in Aberdeen came courtesy of Price’s withdrawal.

Finally, we have Nathan Aspinall taking on Michael Smith, with both players still harbouring hopes of a place in the top four. The Asp is currently in the driving seat, sitting third with two nightly wins and 25 points to his name. This fixture could see things change – Bully Boy is just three points behind and can move into the play-off places with a strong performance.

He has form at this venue too, winning here in 2023 and can put some pressure on those above him with a similar display this year.

Night 15 quarter-finals in full: Michael van Gerwen vs Gerwyn Price; Luke Littler vs Peter Wright; Luke Humphries vs Rob Cross; Nathan Aspinall vs Michael Smith

12/1 BetMGM Premier League Darts Night 15 Accumulator

The penultimate night of the 2024 BetMGM Premier League Darts sees some intriguing ties as the race for the top four reaches a head. As ever, we have put together an acca for the four quarter-finals – this week it comes in at a tasty 12/1.

Michael van Gerwen to beat Gerwyn Price @ 7/10

After being unable to participate in Night 14 in Aberdeen, Price saw qualification hopes come to an end, but he still has a say in who does make the top four. This match against Van Gerwen is a big one for the Dutchman, who needs points to ensure he stays ahead of Michael Smith. Having met just twice this tournament, the pair have one win each but it is Van Gerwen we reckon will win this one. He needs the points more and while both players have struggled for form, MVG has won three of the last four Premier League meetings, and we like the 7/10 for him to win the match.

Luke Littler vs Peter Wright – Littler King of the Oche @ 11/8

It would be difficult to put together two players with more contrasting tournaments. Littler, top of the pile with 36 points and four nightly wins, takes on Peter Wright with his measly two match victories in 14 nights so far.

Nightly champion in both of the previous two weeks, Littler can win the league outright with another victory here and we can’t see anything other than him getting his night off to a flying start against Wright. He is an appealing 11/8 to be ‘King of the Oche’ – win the match, have the most 180s and the highest checkout. Littler was one 180 away from achieving this in their previous Premier League meeting and has an average weekly highest checkout of 98.48 compared to Wright’s 72.31.

Luke Humphries to average under 99.5 vs Rob Cross @ 10/11

An interesting clash is in store in the third game of the night. Cross has to win this game – and indeed the night – to keep his play-off hopes alive. His two consecutive runner-up performances have kept him in with a shout but the likelihood for Voltage is that he will rue the six consecutive quarter-final defeats prior.

Humphries has played some simply wonderful darts throughout the tournament, yet is without a win in the last two weeks. He has still averaged over 100 for the tournament as a whole but has only managed to do this in one Premier League game in the past six weeks.

As such, 10/11 for Cool Hand to average under 99.5 is an intriguing addition to our acca.

Nathan Aspinall vs Michael Smith over 9.5 legs @ 4/5

Possibly the most anticipated match of the quarter-finals sees Aspinall up against Smith. The two are separated by just three points in the table but it is the Asp who occupies that all-important position in the top four with just two nights remaining.

He has also, notably, won both games between against Smith in the 2024 BetMGM Premier League – but both have been close, finishing 6-4 and 6-5 respectively.

It is perhaps no surprise that Aspinall (67%) and Smith (63%) top the table for the number of games with over 9.5 legs. The 4/5 for it to happen in this one seems a great way to finish the acca.

Night 15 Accumulator

  • Michael van Gerwen to beat Gerwyn Price
  • Luke Littler ‘King of the Oche’ vs Peter Wright
  • Luke Humphries to average under 99.5 vs Rob Cross
  • Nathan Aspinall vs Michael Smith over 9.5 legs

Night 15 Odds & BetMGM Specials

Top of the table and assured of his Play-offs Night spot, Luke Littler heads to Leeds as 15/8 favourite and victory here would ensure he finishes the regular competition as the league leader. Luke Humphries sits behind Littler in the table and is 10/3 to win his hometown night and stop the Nuke claiming a third victory in a row. Michael van Gerwen is 7/2 for a fifth nightly win while Gerwyn Price can be backed at 7/1 on his return from injury.

Winner in Leeds last year Michael Smith is priced at 9/1, with third-placed Nathan Aspinall and Rob Cross both at 10/1. Peter Wright, marooned at the bottom of the table, is available at a huge 66/1.

Elsewhere it's 8/1 for Leeds to feature the second nine-dart finish of this year's competition while markets such as total evening 180s, over/under three-dart average, King of the Oche and specific doubles to be hit are all live should you fancy backing something a bit different.

BetMGM Premier League Darts Night 16 Preview & Tips: Smith & Aspinall battle it out for Play-offs Night spot

The 2024 BetMGM Premier League Darts season has reached Night 16 and the final matchday before the play-offs. Sheffield’s Utilita Arena is the venue for what promises to be a nail-biting finish to the regular tournament – particularly for Nathan Aspinall and Michael Smith.

Luke Humphries’ victory last week on his home night in Leeds leaves him with a chance, albeit a slim one, of pipping Luke Littler to top the table by the end of Night 16. His pulsating win in the final against Michael van Gerwen saw Cool Hand pick up maximum points and also meant the Dutchman will be joining him at the O2 in London.

Rob Cross was facing a Herculean task to join them at Play-offs Night and, sure enough, his quarter-final demolition at the hands of Humphries saw his Premier League dream end. He joins the already eliminated Gerwyn Price and Peter Wright, leaving just one spot in London up for grabs.

All of this means the quarter-final between Aspinall and Smith will decide who takes the final spot in the top four. Sixteen weeks of darts come down to a best-of-11 leg shootout for the Asp and Bully Boy in the undeniable standout tie in Sheffield.

Yes, it’s time for Night 16 as the fight for the 2024 BetMGM Premier League Play-offs Night concludes. Let’s take a run-through of the final set of fixtures as the regular tournament culminates in South Yorkshire.

BetMGM Premier League Darts Night 16 Fixtures

With the fixtures for Night 16 determined by the league standings, the first quarter-final sees league leader Luke Littler take on bottom-placed Peter Wright. Snakebite will not be relishing this one following last week’s 6-1 thrashing at the hands of the same opponent.

It has been a campaign to forget for the Scotsman, winning just two matches so far and failing to make it past a semi-final. In contrast, Littler has enjoyed a memorable debut tournament and a win here will see him top the table ahead of Play-offs Night.

Second up is the big one: Nathan Aspinall vs Michael Smith. It’s winner-takes-all in this quarter-final, with the victor joining the already-qualified top three in the play-offs. The pair faced off last week in Leeds with Smith winning to keep within touching distance, though a heavy defeat in the semi-final meant he could not overtake Aspinall in the standings.

For a few weeks prior the Asp looked to be heading to Play-offs Night and remains in pole position but two consecutive quarter-final exits have left the door ajar for Bully Boy to sneak in at the last. It all makes for an intriguing match and a close one to call.

Next, Night 15 winner Luke Humphries takes on Gerwyn Price, whose disappointing tournament will end in Sheffield. Eliminated following his withdrawal through injury in Aberdeen, the Welshman has struggled to find form and is yet to win a night in the 2024 BetMGM Premier League. Humphries has had no such trouble, winning four of them, though he needs to add a fifth if he is to have any chance of stealing top spot.

Finally, Michael van Gerwen takes on Rob Cross, having secured his play-off spot despite a narrow defeat in the Night 15 final. Four nightly wins have helped get him there, though they have been mixed with some early exits and the Dutchman will be hoping for a strong performance to help build some form and consistency ahead of the trip to London.

Voltage started the tournament well enough, was in the top four after Night 6 and has played well recently, but it is the run of six weeks without a win in-between that ultimately has cost him a play-off chance.

Night 16 quarter-finals in full: Luke Littler vs Peter Wright; Nathan Aspinall vs Michael Smith; Luke Humphries vs Gerwyn Price; Michael van Gerwen vs Rob Cross

13/1 BetMGM Premier League Darts Night 16 Accumulator

Luke Littler vs Peter Wright – Littler King of the Oche @ 6/5

Littler and Wright meet again following the youngster’s dominant 6-1 win last week. It is difficult to see a different outcome in Sheffield. Snakebite threw just one 180, won just one leg and averaged a measly 82.69 as he was comprehensively beaten in what has been the story of the two-time world champion’s tournament.

Littler will win the league section with a victory here and we are backing him to go even further than that once again. He was ‘King of the Oche’ in this fixture last week, hitting four maximums to Wright’s one, having a match-high checkout of 146 and winning the game with ease. As such, an appealing 6/5 for Littler to be ‘King of the Oche’ is the first pick for the acca.

Nathan Aspinall to beat Michael Smith @ 22/25

It all comes down to this for Aspinall and Smith as they try to make the last four of the 2024 BetMGM Premier League. Just one point separates them in the table, with Aspinall having won two nights to Smith’s one. The two cannot end level on points though, making this a straight shootout for progression.

Having faced each other three times already, it is the Asp with the upper hand, winning two of the meetings despite losing the clash in Leeds on Night 15. Both players have finished a night as runner-up three times and are separated by just one match win, making this a tough one to call – and even tougher still when you consider Bully Boy’s victory at this venue last year.

That said, Aspinall has been in the driving seat for the last few weeks and has arguably played better darts throughout the competition. This, coupled with the narrow advantage in the head-to-heads, makes Aspinall our pick to win the match at 22/25, securing his place in the play-offs in the process.

Luke Humphries to average over 101.5 vs Gerwyn Price @ 10/11

It was clear that last week in Leeds meant a lot to Humphries as he triumphed in front of an adoring home crowd. Night 15 was his fourth overall win of the tournament and his first since Night 8 in Dublin. Cool Hand played some fine darts on his way to victory, having the highest average of the week at 109.48, helping to keep his three-dart average for the whole Premier League campaign to date above 101.

A 102.84 average in the semi-final was followed by a 99.99 in his victory over Michael van Gerwen in the showpiece and it’s to the averages we are heading for our acca pick as a result. Backing him to build on his excellent performance in Leeds, the 10/11 for Humphries to average over 101.5 is our choice.

Michael van Gerwen vs Rob Cross – Van Gerwen over 2.5 180s @ 17/20

Both players have had interesting tournaments – just for different reasons. Van Gerwen has won four nights and seen some wonderful darts mixed in with eight quarter-final exits while Cross has made the final on three occasions and the semi-finals on five, yet went six weeks without winning a single game.

With Cross already eliminated and MVG already through to Play-offs Night, both players should play with some freedom with the pressure removed. Though he hasn’t been at his scoring peak throughout the Premier League, Van Gerwen hit the joint highest amount of maximums last week with 11 and we like the look of the 17/20 for him to hit over 2.5 180s to complete our picks for Night 16.

Night 16 Accumulator

  • Luke Littler ‘King of the Oche’ vs Peter Wright
  • Nathan Aspinall to beat Michael Smith
  • Luke Humphries to average over 101.5 vs Gerwyn Price
  • Michael van Gerwen over 2.5 180s vs Rob Cross

Night 16 Odds & BetMGM Specials

Top of the table, and needing just one win to stay there, Luke Littler leads the betting at 7/4 favourite to win the night in Sheffield. Luke Humphries is the only player who has a slim chance of catching Littler and has to win the night to stand any chance at all – he is 5/2 for back-to-back wins. Michael van Gerwen is guaranteed his play-off spot and is 5/1 for a fifth nightly win while Gerwyn Price can be backed at 7/1.

Winner here last year Michael Smith is priced at 10/1, as is Nathan Aspinall, while Rob Cross is 16/1 and Peter Wright is a huge 66/1 to spring the biggest of surprises on the final night.

Humphries hit a nine-darter at the weekend despite losing the final of the latest European Tour event to Cross. Price remains the only player to throw a perfect leg so far in the 2024 BetMGM Premier League but we have odds of 8/1 for one to be hit at any point in Sheffield. Can Humphries hit two in a week?

As well as our acca and the overall win odds BetMGM also carries odds on outcomes such as total evening 180s, over/under three-dart average, King of the Oche and specific doubles to be hit should you fancy backing something a bit different.

BetMGM Premier League Darts Finals Night: Van Gerwen Gunning for 8th Title

After 16 weeks of exhilarating darts, Play-offs Night is here and what a line-up we have in store as the tournament culminates at London’s O2.

Three players had already assured their top four spots ahead of last week’s final regular night in Sheffield but we were still treated to some fantastic darts – and drama.

Luke Littler got the night underway with a win over Peter Wright which meant he finished as the league leader. He would, though, go on to lose to overall night winner Michael Smith.

Second-placed Luke Humphries also won his quarter-final against Rob Cross and went on to make the final by beating Michael van Gerwen in the next, finishing just four points behind league winner Littler.

The night, however, belonged to Smith.

His quarter-final showdown with Nathan Aspinall was a straight shootout for a place in the top four. After a slow start from both players with so much at stake the turning point came with a bull-bull-double 18 136 finish from Bully Boy. It flipped the match in his favour and he didn’t look back from there, turning on the style to win 6-3 and secure his place in London

It was heartbreak for Aspinall, who had spent the last nine weeks in a play-off spot, but poetic for Smith as he bookended the 2024 BetMGM Premier League Darts regular campaign by winning the first and the last nights.

The competitors for Finals Night are Littler, Humphries, Van Gerwen and Smith, so let’s run through the fixtures and format of play as the competition ends in London.

BetMGM Premier League Darts Finals Night Fixtures

Though there are just three matches on Finals Night the format is longer; players face a best-of-19-legs semi-final and a best-of-21-legs final, making for lots of opportunities for twists and turns.

Luke Littler vs Michael Smith

After topping the table in the league phase, Luke Littler will get the night underway as he faces Michael Smith in the first semi-final.

Littler and Smith are well acquainted with one another, having faced off seven times, including in the semi-final last week. Smith won that one on his way to victory and has in fact won five of the meetings between the pair in the 2024 BetMGM Premier League.

It should make for an intriguing battle this one, with the two victories Littler recorded being comprehensive at 6-1 and 6-2. While 11 points separated them in the league table Finals Night represents a reset; can 2018 runner-up Smith make his experience and momentum tell against the competition debutant?

Luke Humphries vs Michael van Gerwen

It’s world number one versus seven-time reigning BetMGM Premier League champion in the second semi-final in what promises to be an absolute blockbuster.

Luke Humphries and Michael van Gerwen have met five times during the regular BetMGM Premier League season with the Yorkshireman winning the last four on the spin.

Indeed, including European Tour events, Humphries is on a six-game winning streak against the Dutchman with MVG’s last win coming on Night 3 of the BetMGM Premier League in Glasgow.

Yet Van Gerwen has won seven Premier League titles for a reason. A born winner, he will be an incredibly tough opponent for Cool Hand.

Though Humphries had the better of the head-to-head matches, they both won the same amount of nights with four apiece and arrive at the play-offs having finished just one place and five points apart.

It will be a fascinating contest – the form and better darts throughout the tournament lies with Humphries but the experience of Finals Night is with Van Gerwen. Expect a best-of-19 tungsten thriller.

Play-offs Night semi-finals in full: Luke Littler vs Michael Smith; Luke Humphries vs Michael van Gerwen

12/1 BetMGM Premier League Darts Finals Night Accumulator

As we did throughout the 16 nights of regular BetMGM Premier League action, we have put together an acca for Finals Night. On this occasion, we have picked two selections from each semi-final which fall into the betslip at an intriguing 12/1.

Luke Littler vs Michael Smith

Acca selection 1 – Michael Smith to win the match

The league winner takes on the player who sneaked into Finals Night at the last possible chance in an interesting battle in the first semi-final.

Despite leaving it until the death to clinch a play-off spot, Michael Smith has enjoyed a good tournament of late, suffering just one quarter-final exit in the final seven weeks of the competition. His two nightly wins came in Cardiff and Sheffield, at the very beginning and very end of the campaign, and while he finished some distance behind Littler in the table he seems to have the edge over the youngster when they meet.

Last week saw Bully Boy claim another win over Littler – making it five out of seven in the head-to-heads – and while Littler has played some scintillating darts throughout the BetMGM Premier League the experience and know-how of Smith could make the difference. The 2023 world champion to win the match is the first pick for our acca at 17/10.

Acca selection 2 – Over 11.5 180s in the match

Between them Littler and Smith hit the most 180s overall for exactly half of the 16 nights – Littler with five and Smith with three.

With a combined 210 maximums – and 47 in the games in which they have faced one another – the 180s have simply flowed freely for the pair so far and we don’t expect that to change in London.

Given Littler also leads the whole league for maximums this season, with 114, 9/10 for over 11.5 180s here is surely good value.

Luke Humphries vs Michael van Gerwen

Acca selection 3 – Luke Humphries to win the match

The second semi-final is a genuinely tough one to call.

Luke Humphries has been playing wonderful, consistent darts on his first full BetMGM Premier League season, winning four nights and making two more finals. MVG also won four nights but his eight quarter-final defeats showed some alarming dips in form and meant he ended with a leg difference of just plus-eight.

MVG is vastly experienced in this environment though. A winner of this competition seven times and a runner-up twice in addition to his plethora of other major darts honours, if there is one player that can pull a performance out of the bag it is him. Despite this, though, it’s Humphries we are backing to make the final.

The world number one already holds the PDC World Championship, World Grand Prix, Grand Slam of Darts and Players’ Championship Finals titles – the BetMGM Premier League would make for the crowning moment of a mighty quintuple of successes.

It won’t be easy, of course, but he has played the better darts and also enjoys a much better recent head-to-head record over MVG, going undefeated against him for six matches. As such, 12/25 for a Humphries win makes up leg three of our Finals Night acca.

Acca selection 4 – Over 16.5 total legs in the match

With the semi-finals played to the best of 19 there are plenty of opportunities for this game to throw up some drama.

Though we have picked Humphries to win it is likely going to be a close game due to the ability of Van Gerwen to perform when it really matters. Adding to this that three of the Dutchman’s last four semi-finals on Finals Night have featured over 16.5 legs, this is where our final pick heads. Humphries vs Van Gerwen to contain over 16.5 legs at 8/11 completes the acca.

Finals Night Accumulator

  • Michael Smith to beat Luke Littler
  • Michael Smith vs Luke Littler over 11.5 180s
  • Luke Humphries to beat Michael van Gerwen
  • Luke Humphries vs Michael van Gerwen over 16.5 legs

2024 World Matchplay Darts Tips: Humphries the Smart Bet But Don’t Sleep on Van Veen

Blackpool’s Winter Gardens takes centre stage as World Matchplay Darts returns for 2024 – the 31st annual staging of the competition.

Last year's winner Nathan Aspinall hopes to challenge again but faces stiff competition from a world-class field, including 2024 BetMGM Premier League champion Luke Littler and PDC world champion Luke Humphries.

The World Matchplay is played in leg format as follows:

  • First round: First to 10

World Matchplay Tips & Predictions

Tip 1 – Luke Humphries to win the World Matchplay @ 3/1

It may sound like an obvious choice but we’re finding it difficult to look past world champion and BetMGM Premier League runner-up Humphries to lift the trophy in Blackpool.

Cool Hand’s consistency in major tournaments continues to be impressive - as well as being the holder of five majors, he was a finalist in another two. Though he was beaten in the Premier League final by Littler, it is entirely plausible he keeps his 12 months going here.

A first-round draw against Ricardo Pietreczko, who has lost five games in a row ahead of this one, gives Humphries a chance to get his campaign off to a solid start. With some tasty ties elsewhere in the opening fixtures, including Michael van Gerwen taking on Littler, competition for the Yorkshireman could be whittled down fairly quickly.

Tip 2 – Gian van Veen to win Quarter 4 @ 14/1

Up-and-comer Van Veen has already enjoyed plenty of success on the PDC Development Tour, coupled with an impressive sixth-round appearance at the 2024 UK Open and a run to the semi-finals of the European Championship last year.

His displays have seen him climb into the top 32 in the Order of Merit and have naturally brought around talk of a debut major title for the 22-year-old Dutchman in the not-too-distant future.

While the 100/1 for that to happen at the 2024 World Matchplay suggests it is perhaps a tournament or two too soon for him, 14/1 for Van Veen to be the winner of the fourth quarter of the draw is a different matter.

As Littler’s youth world championship rival aims to make his name on one of the biggest stages, a draw quarter containing six players he has beaten at least twice already in his fledgling pro career should hold no fear for the noted 180 merchant.

15/2 World Matchplay First Round Acca

Just as we did throughout the BetMGM Premier League Darts season, we have put together selections from the opening set of matches of the World Matchplay to form a 15/2 first-round accumulator.

Acca Leg 1 – Gian van Veen to beat Rob Cross @ 7/4

We have already mentioned Van Veen is one to watch during this tournament and he gets his World Matchplay campaign underway against 2018 world champion Rob Cross.

Cross had a fairly disappointing BetMGM Premier League campaign, finishing sixth, and suffered a second-round exit at the Masters. Recent final appearances at the Nordic and Polish Masters show improvement but 2019 Matchplay winner Voltage has a truly tricky opening tie here against the Dutch youngster.

Cross suffered a 6-0 whitewash against Michael Smith on the European Tour last time out and, with Van Veen winning three of the last five meetings between the pair, we’re going for the upset in round one at 7/4.

Acca Leg 2 – Michael Smith to beat Gary Anderson @ Evens

Fresh from winning the World Cup of Darts for England alongside Humphries, Michael Smith heads to Blackpool for the World Matchplay hoping to win the competition for the first time.

Bully Boy’s previous best was finishing runner-up in 2019. Since then his performances here have declined, with semi and quarter-final spots followed by two consecutive second-round exits.

Gary Anderson is Smith’s opponent in the first round this time with the Scotsman without a major win since 2018, the same year he last won this tournament.

An appearance in the 2020 Matchplay was the last time Anderson even got past round two in this competition and The Flying Scotsman has struggled against Smith recently into the bargain by losing all of their previous five matches.

Evens for BetMGM Premier League semi-finalist Smith to come through this one looks to be good value.

Acca Leg 3 - Michael van Gerwen to beat Luke Littler (+2.5 legs) @ 4/7

The tie of the first round pits three-time World Matchplay champion Van Gerwen against Littler once again.

Teenager Littler has enjoyed a breakthrough season of dreams and was crowned BetMGM Premier League champion back in May while also picking up multiple European Tour titles and making a final appearance on his PDC World Championship debut.

Van Gerwen, meanwhile, has endured mixed fortunes this season, combining some brilliant performances we know he is capable of with some disappointing losses and averages - in the BetMGM Premier League alone he won four nights yet also suffered defeat in the quarter-final eight times, more than any of the top four finishers.

Van Gerwen did make the last four of the Premier League and the final of the Masters but was swept aside by Humphries in the former and beaten by Bunting in the latter.

That said, of his seven Premier League meetings with Littler MVG won four including a 6-1 rout in their last match ensuring he goes into this one with a 5-4 advantage in the head-to-heads. As such, 4/7 for Van Gerwen to win with a +2.5 legs handicap makes sense.

First Round Acca

  • Gian van Veen to beat Rob Cross
  • Michael Smith to beat Gary Anderson
  • Michael van Gerwen to beat Luke Littler +2.5 legs

BetMGM Specials

As well as outright odds and individual match betting, BetMGM has several specials available throughout the 2024 World Matchplay.

Everyone loves a nine-darter and the Matchplay is going through a bit of a barren spell when it comes to perfect legs, with none here since Gerwyn Price hit one back in 2022. The Matchplay was, however, where the great Phil Taylor hit the first-ever televised nine-dart finish on British TV against Chris Mason in 2002. If you fancy a perfect leg to be hit this time around, it is 4/5 or indeed an interesting 4/1 for over 1.5 of them.
